Hi Donnalouise. I am so sorry that the Vintage Travel puzzle wasn't the fun experience you had hoped for. I was greatly looking forward to seeing it be put together. I totally understand walking away. It's such a shame the image is so blurry. I, too, don't like blurry puzzles and find that they hurt my eyes. I want to pass on my thanks to Valmai for giving it a go. That is quite a task to undertake. You seem to have many wonderful friends which is so lovely. The colorful flowers and butterflies puzzle is so striking and beautiful. I just love the style of it. It is definitely a puzzle that I would spend a lot of time staring at after completing. I am glad that you are doing better. Also, just want to say that I loved the puzzle video where you showed us how you glue your puzzles. I am very interested in seeing how your process differs for puzzles over 1000. Hopefully Valmai loves doing the Vintage Travel puzzle and you love the final results. Wishing you a great week and happy puzzling!

That's too bad that the vintage travel puzzle was so blurry. The butterfly puzzle was gorgeous!

I think you were very brave to ever attempt that puzzle! It's a beautiful image, but 6000 pieces with that color palette 😵. I'm crossing my fingers that the finished puzzle turns out beautiful and framable 🤞😊.

Ones when I was going to a fleamarket, I did a puzzle before hand, that I had had for a while and knew I wanted to sell ones I had put it together. So when I finally did it, it wasn't because I was in the mood for it, but just because it was practical to get it done before going to that market. And it was such a shame, because even though it was a beautiful image that I really loved, the fact that I wasn't in the mood for it, made it a sludge to put together. From then on, I have promised myself, to only do a puzzle if I feel like it, and not for any other reason 🌞.

Love the second puzzle but personally I didn't like the first one at all. Too many browns and quite boring I thought 😄

One would expect the image of a puzzle to be sharp. Agree with all of your points regarding the resolution, especially when going larger. Let's hope for the best🧩

Despite the trouble you had with the Grafika puzzle, I still take my hat off to you for even trying a puzzle that big! My puzzles are usually in the 1000-1500 piece range, so give yourself a pat on the back for your courage! 😸👏🏼

My goodness, quite a contrast between the two jigsaws. The vintage travel one full of browns and antique yellow and the lovely cheerful, vibrant colours of the butterflies and flowers. I would not choose to do the vintage travel one in any size, not my cup of tea.☕ Good of Valmai to take on the Vintage puzzle for you. I like jigsaws that are bright and cheerful. I've just started a very colourful Gibsons puzzle called Cakes with Faces - Sweet Retreat. 🧁😊

Sounds to me like it is just a depth of field issue rather than an overall blurry image. As a photographer, I don't mind it as it give an image a more natural look and I would rather have that than image full of photoshop artefacts especially since I can easily spot them and find them irritating to say the least. There are ways to increase the depth of field both optically (small aperture, tilt shift lens) and digitally (focus stacking) but I prefer the old school look and I think it is fitting to this specific image. It is a matter of perpective of course, pun intended, but I think you should give it a chance and look at it in a different light 🙂once it is fully assembled. Cheers.

I can totally understand your concern about what the final outcome for the Travel puzzle would be. To put a lot of time and expense into a piece that you're not happy with would definitely be a disappointment. I recently finished a puzzle that was of an image I loved and considered hanging it. However, upon completion, the image wasn't clear. I can't really say it was blurry, but it wasn't clear either. I left it for a couple days, and after careful consideration put it back in the box. (It was only 1000 pieces) The butterfly puzzle is beautiful. The image is so pretty to look at. I can see why looking at it would make you smile.

Yup. If a puzzle starts to be a grind it's a good idea to bale. You have earned that right ! P.S. Please leave me your antique world map puzzle in your will !

Make a poster yourself. When I get a puzzle without a poster, I take the cover to the local business center and have them print me a poster up to 11x14. In color.

Thanks for passing it to me to have a go at - hopefully the quality will be enough for you to glue, even without framing. It will be a challenge! The colourful one is pretty, I think it's good to take a break and have a puzzle snack of glorious colour :)

Hallo Donnalouise,
I think that Grafica and Bluebird are produced from the same overall company. And therefore I believe that the 6000 piece puzzles are the same cut and quality. I have been building a 6000 pieces Bluebird a view months ago, and it was colorful but a marathon of blurry small pieces and I have mixed all the 6000 pieces.
I totally understand your decision, at the end my puzzle was although blurry pieces really pretty, I think yours will lock good too once assembled.
regards Michi

That 1000 piece one is gorgeous. The pieces used to fit more tightly years ago. Over the years they've changed the pieces and they fit looser now but colours and matte finish has stayed the same. I think they do it so the puzzle is more environmentally friendly despite the plastic it comes wrapped it. I have what I think is an older cut of the 2000K puzzle Fantasy Wedding and it survived a puzzle pickup several times in a row without dropping a piece. Only had to press them back in.
I just love these kinda puzzles with a bit of fantasy and whimsy.

Considering you don't like the blurr you should skip puzzles with art pieces from Cris Ortega. She often has a clear red accent and the rest is muted greens and browns. Sometimes a bit of yellow. And the skintones can't always be easily differentiated from other sections of the art. Gorgeous art and I still have two puzzles with her art on it but I think I'd rather just buy the art pieces instead.

It's a hard thing to admit that you don't want to continue on with something, especially when you do have some attachment to it! I think people in general have a hard time deciding to not finish something, like it's a defeat or something to be disappointed in. I try to tell myself it's not worth the time, money or energy to keep doing something I don't like, especially when it's supposed to be a FUN project!

The 1000 piece puzzle was very pretty and I bet it'll look great on the wall too!

That's the biggest issue I have with puzzles that use paintings for their images. I prefer crisp lines but those from a paining have all those brush strokes and tend to blend more. :( I have a hard time continuing or purchasing those kinds of puzzles.

Good on you for stopping with the first one! I know I've regretted slogging through things that are just not bringing me joy and it can be hard to know when the right point of stopping is. But life is too short, especially for something that is supposed to be fun. I hope you end up liking the image when it's completed but either way, you made a good call moving to something that was light and a pleasure to do!

I think that is my biggest fear with a large piece puzzle, spending the money on a puzzle that I wont like. I LOVE the image of the vintage travel, but yes all that brown would make me nuts!!! However, this one with all the colors and butterflies.... gorgeous!!!!
