I will never solely chose or trust a drone operated by video without boots on the ground and eyes on target. Drones are utility asset gathering intell and a weapons delivery system but is not a force replacement and should never be!!!

As a veteran I'd encourage my kids to join but honestly I'd tell them to join the navy or the air force less likely to destroy your body in those branches 😅🙏

Enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2007 after college. Always wanted to serve considering all the negative influences (a white sheep amongst black sheep and first to graduate from college) students were paid off after I deployed with the option for OCS but being pushed to go OCS because I was a minority (Chicano) really pissed me off like I would be a diversity hire and not earning it on on top of a dislocated shoulder and broken ankle so I moved on. The military is not for everyone if I had kids I’d tell them to go into the reserves and college at the same time or active duty Air Force 😂.

My dad was in the Navy (specifically, he was a Seabee) during the Vietnam War. He only enlisted because he didn't want to be drafted - he wanted to survive what ended up being a horribly traumatic experience for him. He's still healing from all that he experienced. Personally, I support the people who put their health and lives on the line for the U.S. Military.......................but I do not support the people WHO RUN the Military.

If you think college is too expensive or the military has too much funding then you should join the military and get in on the “free” college and “all” that money 💀

Drone warfare (13 minutes in): EXACTLY! If we can conduct war, without having to send our own sons and daughters into harm's way, then the decision to start a war becomes too easy. War SHOULD be a tremendous, unpleasant solution to a problem, not an easy, money-making path to choose, whenever you don't feel like making a hard compromise.

After watching an episode of "Last Week Tonight" about drone warfare, I can't help but emphasize the psychological impacts. The kid who said that the only time when it was okay to play was with dark, cloudy skies, but when it became clear, sunny skies, these are things to be feared because drones become invisible - this is Terminator-levels of scary. The next invasion may not require a huge deployment of soldiers, equipment, and vehicles - it could just be a bunch of film-making tourists.

I loved the common ground that was immediately felt during "the military gets too much funding" question.

The pro drone guy misses the entire point. Of course drones make is easier on us. Making war a video game takes away a major reason the public doesn’t like war and politicians don’t endorse wars constantly. A world where drones are constantly raining death in anyone who does anything that the United States government, or more precisely influential special interest groups, don’t like is a horrible one. If political leaders were able to resist that type of power temptation there wouldn’t be any war in the first place

I agree with Peter on the dangers of desensitizing someone of the violence of war. We trained for on a Nintendo game for gun ranges when I was in basic training. What an interesting conversation.
