I have never tried Cathy Pacific. When I travel to Hong Kong, I always choose Singapore airlines.

I'm facing combined fifteen hours and ten minutes in premium economy x 2 flying from Johannesburg to Bangkok via Hong Kong. The sad reality is that post Covid airlines have to cut cost somewhere and while inflight experience is prioritised, the plane are not always going to be as clean as they once were. And no, premium economy is only 30% less expensive than business class but on that length of flight, economy is not an option. It is the lack of lounge access that still makes premium economy an economy class with an inch wider seats and a few inches more legroom.

Is it becaues you order veggie meal? Restaurants are not used to make veggie meal and thus the quality is usually lower than other 'normal' meal.

Thanks for the video! We’re flying cathay from Australia to Canada via HK because it’s not flying through LAX (and anything is better than that!) and it was the best option for our oneworld around the world ticket. We are flying business and I’m glad we have a stopover in HK because the airport looks great. I don’t really care about service on board if the seat and everything is comfortable. Hopefully it all goes well. Thanks for videos I really enjoy them!

I recently flew from Melbourne to London Heathrow via Hong Kong in economy (first time with Cathay), and I can say I definitely prefer it to Singapore airlines which I flew Brisbane to Heathrow a few months earlier. Obviously it's a subjective opinion but I found the food was better, the inflight entertainment was way better, and even the toilets on board and the staff seemed better as well. Plus the airport in HKG isn't too bad either (I still prefer Changi in Singapore but that's a hard one to beat) it has some really nice views of the surrounding hills. I'd definitely recommend Cathay to economy travellers on a medium budget.

Did Cathay pre com DXB>HKG, was awesome. China Airlines (Taiwan) used to be awesome - gone to. 💩 All subjective.

This is the Premier airline in Asia. Singapore didn’t wow me like I thought it would. The service was bad compared with Cathay, and even dare I say Iberia. The lounges at Singapore for Singapore airlines aren’t as amazing as Cathay’s. HKG is also a wayyyyy better airport than SIN. More lounges. Less carpets.

2-4-2 is not good

There was a time in the 70s 80s and 90s in which CX FAs excelled and only matched by SQ. Now as you have said they are below the best in Asia. Times have definitely passed.

For real, I tried the economy class from HK to UK, and FRA to HK. And the trip is kinda good although it’s cramped. In my opinion is kinda depends on what flight you’re going to. Their food are ok and I don’t expect anything very luxurious in economy. It has noodles for snacks too and overall is nice.

I don't think it's fair to rate their food if you are not using their standard menu(non-special options). It's not the best, but still very good, and the pre-order service makes it relieving.

I've been on cathay many times, and i've been in both the business and first class lounge, and although the first class lounge is much nicer, the business class lounge's dan dan mian is absolutely AMAZIING! something I have to get everytime. And i'm surprised that boarding took so long - for me it's always been earlier or on time!

Very interesting review. We have pretty polar opinions so will be very interesting to see how my Business Cathay flight next month goes. I'll report in.

Dan, do enjoy your content. Just a tip.. . Economy lavatory lines are expected so maybe cut out next time: also other similar pointers because your clips run quite long...maybe can be perceived as a whinge... But keep up the good work dude

I had been a loyal customer especially on the route from NY to HK for years until today, mediocre service, way too expensive relative to competitors and Dan is totally correct, low morale in flight attendants, ground staff etc.

CX were always my favourite when I lived in HKG, but that was a while ago now.

I’m so suprised that CX is in the position it’s in. CX should aim to be a top premium airline like SG or middle eastern airlines, instead it stays in the middle somewhere. Can be great sometimes but also very disappointing. At the moment not sure what it’s strategies are but it’s trying to charge a premium over other better carriers but with a adequate service. I think the people in Hong Kong want them to be better, but there is so much competition in this area that I’m not sure what they want to aim for. The people in Hong Kong I’m sure are willing to pay extra if the airline is to return to its glory days. It’s just run like a budget airline but with a premium price tag. Do better CX

I was in the exact same seat today earlier

Destroyed right after communist invaded HongKong. Covid added more injury. Cathay lost its pride and sense of humanity. All fares are much higher than competitors of similar routes. Oh, don't expect much out of ground crew in US, especially JFK. They (many Indians) just don't care. Cathay may never get back to become a favorite choice!

Cathay Pacific is racist against Asians. Take second thoughts if you're Asian and thinking about flying Cathay Pacific.

CX used to be good regional airline but now really fall way behind most international airlines.

hard for the flight attendants to give a shit when they're paid the equivalent of 1200USD/month.
They had their pay cut incredibly short after the pandemic, while management has recovered their bonuses and salaries to pre-covid levels.

CX has been caught into the political turmoil of HK, it changed the top management and fired all staff involved in the HK protest before Covid so the airline can survive. Moral is bad now with heavy handed management and exceedingly low pay. Their best days are probably gone with the city.
