The emphasis of this line and wash demo is on capturing the essence and mood of the technique and subject, rather than getting caught up in the details. This approach can be incredibly freeing and boost your confidence as a beginner or even as an artist.

Useful notes:
There are several variations of the line and wash technique. In this demo, I use the first technique.
1. Traditional Line and Wash: This is where you complete the entire line drawing first, then add watercolour washes on top. In my video I have taken a relatively simple subject to demonstrate line and wash, that is easy for beginners. But this technique is well used by expert artists of line and wash to create plein-air, urban architectural sketches or detailed illustrations.
2. Watercolour First: Here, you lay down the watercolour washes first, allowing them to dry completely before adding the ink lines on top. This approach can create a more spontaneous and organic feel. Try doing some loose florals for example!
3. Simultaneous Line and Wash: This involves alternating between adding lines and washes. It's a more dynamic way to work and can lead to some interesting results as the two mediums interact with each other.
Here are a few practical tips to keep in mind:
1. Use Waterproof Ink: Ensure your pen is waterproof to prevent smudging when you add the watercolour washes.
2. Practice Loose Sketching: Don't worry about perfect lines. Embrace the imperfections—they add character to your work.
3. Layer Your Washes: Start with light washes and gradually build up the colour. This allows you to control the intensity and create depth.
