It's an amazing art but sorry to say it is not practical ...we used plasic karambit "with red paint to show the hits " vs strait blade for a demonstration of a street encounter ...the karambit did 0 lethal hit while the 20 cm straight blade with a simple stabbing forward wins everytime and the damage received was from light to moderate "scores 4 level damage at best in 10 level's scale" even when we limited the test to only slashing attacks the guy using the karambit was awefuly destroyed because the other guy just had more reach...the backward gripp excels only in "fromup"stabbing but curving and shortning the blade make this only feature go to waste ...so when u go to train ask for a real demonstration and u will know exaclty what i'm talking about.

Karambit knife is a gimmick. A long fixed blade knife is way more effective.
