Take cash to a bank and get them to check serial numbers. That'd rule out (or prove) if it's stolen. Or take it to the cops and say you don't know where it came from and are worried that it may be from less-than-legitimate sources. Because even if the notes aren't stolen, that amount of cash could potentially be from shady dealings, whether resulting in his death or years prior to. "My old life caught up with me" suggests to me that he knew people were coming for him. Good intentions and real caring or not, there's a possibility that the cash could lead unsavoury folks out of the woodwork. We want to give benefit of the doubt and I believe he truly did just care about OP and want her to succeed, but he may have unintentionally put her in danger. If he was an ex-con there are fucking scary people in those circles who wouldn't hesitate to murder a teenage girl in cold blood over some cash. Even if she had nothing to do with its acquisition. It’s an inheritance distributed by an attorney it’s not going to be stolen money and the bad feeling maybe that you don’t use the money as John wished. Past catching up with him could have been cancer from smoking too long or something. I would do as John wished, after all it was Johns money not yours.

Story #6 I hope the young boy who was abused eventually found his family and got the help he needed. I couldn't help but say 'Good' when I heard the older man that abused him and other young men and boys had died. Story #7 Note with the money given was really touching. If it's John's dying wish, do as he says and use the money. Perhaps you could even save it in precious metals or invest it if you have any left over.

We've all had our fair share of failures in life, but not everyone gets back on their feet to try again. Life is fucking hard and our economy is currently in shambles! Use that money to pursue career you know in your heart you will enjoy, and go for it. Looking back at my life and all the challenges and pain I've faced, I wish I was given a gift like that to get to where I want to be in life. To this day I'm still trying to figure things out and I'm still struggling. But you have something a lot of us need right now. Money and a second chance to make things right! USE THAT MONEY TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!

For the last story, the man who gave the narrator money for paying back her parents and college, he truly is a gem. Despite his history he gave such good advice such as life is to short, and despite both the waitress and man not knowing each other for very long, to recognize someone’s potential and to be kind and to go far as to help them with their dreams despite barley knowing them is incredibly rare and is a testament of his heart and character. Even if the money possibly came from a bad place (which is speculation) he saw something in her and he wanted her to flourish and thrive, and be able to do something that he couldn’t due to age and which he was in no way obligated to do and he wouldn’t have gained anything from such a gesture. Wherever he is I hope he rests in peace and is in a place where he can be happy and free. And to the poster I think you should use the money, I know it may be scary and you are more than valid to take your time in that process. But that money was left for you and only for you, and if it were to be money from a bad place or that could harm you the cops would’ve opened the envelope and tracked to money to make sure it’s safe before giving it to you. Great stories read brilliantly as ever. Thank you. Id like to think that the attempted abduction story may help these people realise the wide and long lasting impact they have when they do these awful things. But I'm not sure it will.

Got to say the smug daily walker being a male only had a small taste of the threat women feel when out walking alone. So maybe he should not be so smug about some of his peers and family not being so healthy as him as we don't feel always feel as freely able to go out walking every evening.
