The big difference, however, is that when entering lawfully with ESTA approval into the USA immigration officers who don't understand what your visa is for, or question your 'will to leave the USA after expiry of stay', or just don't like you as a person (!) can send you back immediately without compensation for the lost money you paid for your flight.
PLUS: Have you Americans ever been treated by your own security people (with no formal education or knowledge of foreign customs & habits) like a criminal like visitors from abroad? This will never happen when entering a European country, they will observe the rules, but are polite & considerate.

Great... Now the EU is going to have the same visa issues like Brazil. The Americans need a visa to visit Brazil, and vice versa. Who required it first, and was it retaliation?

It's not a visa. It's a visa waiver. Visas are for visits more than 90 consecutive days. Visas require people to go to embassies or consulates. Not with this. They haven't even set a date when this will go into effect.

honestly it makes no sense for USA, EU, Canada, Japan, SK, Australia, New Zealand, UK to fight over these travel authorizations.
most people who overstay their visas are not from these countries, we should just drop this requirements between our countries.

All 40 countries part of the VWP had to do ESTA no one saw them complain and also those with actual visas to the US had to wait, but when it comes to the US doing so is cry, cry, cry and oh why. Seriously, give me a break. You cannot compare Europe with South Korea. South Korea is 100 000 years away from the US and Europe will not lose any tourists, but I am sure it will be a hustle for those 30% of Americans who have a passport. EU citizens have always had to make an ESTA declaration when traveling to the USA, so the method in question, which now applies to Americans traveling to Europe, is the same as the ESTA filled out by Europeans, and the US Esta costs 3x more than the declaration made by the EU.

you have to have a visa to come to the US....... growing up in italy-america we needed visas for every country in europe. the EU is being fair. this isn't an issue. it's prob an easier process than traveling to the uS.

Well, that sucks. My dad won't take me to Europe now. It's not fair. My friends have traveled there multiple times while I've never been.

Red flags include an arabic name, a weird name, a weird place of birth, a weird anything. Florida just becomes super attractive for a vacation. I can see people applying and having to do interviews and wait for weeks if not months. Fuck Europe.
