What best characterizes Jeff's playing style is his ability to imply time. His groove is not just about the “hits” but the silences in his playing are just as important ! He knew how to deliver THE hit he needed at the RIGHT time, no more, no less. He was also a keen user of cymbals.

When i listen that music i remember the golden years of USA.

It’s probably been 10 years since I’ve first seen this video and gone down the toto rabbit hole (I believe the exact copy I saw was deleted), and I’m still mad at how inimitable Jeff is, even with the 8th note groove he laid down right off the bat…for example the unique lope his hihat has. It’s also maddening how much time seemed to “slow down” and you notice all the space between the notes when he did that.

In my estimation, the most overlooked drummer in modern music. I started paying attention last year when I followed the trail from Bernard Purdie to the logical “next.” Thank you for posting this video; it provides a glimpse into how Pocaro developed his unique and creative grooves. I intend to listen to the video a minimum of once a week until I can internalize how he taught himself how to develop such creativity.
