EASIEST Way to Tie the FG Knot (Strongest Braid to Leader Fishing Knot)

Can you share video of side beside weight comparisons with uni/Uni knot or others?

Such an amazing contribution to our industry. I'm not a salt guy, but a leader knot is a leader knot, and I want to know I'm tying the strongest knot, and doing it properly. These videos are absolutely priceless. Thank you for all you've done for our sport!

Can this knot by used on 60lb mono leader line to 15lb mono main line.

Its my first time trying this and I'm struggling. It may just be orientation. being right handed, I'm not sure what side to wrap the line for tension.

Cheers for that. My son and I are just starting to use braided line with leaders.
This knot is so simple its taken a little bit of the fear out of it. We will be using our braded line in the next couple of days so we will use this knot. Cheers for your time. Its very worth while for us. I was actually going to make a loop with the braided and then put the leader through the loop and then tie the standard knot you use for hooks but it would limit the size of my leader because the knot wouldn't slim through the eyes. Still learning.

How long this FG knot will last after the first time we tighten?

Honestly not a very good tutorial. I can't even see what you're doing on the first step. And you said "put leader line over the braid" when it looks like the braid is actually on top. Not a great tutorial.

Will this be strong enough for big game fish like tuna? Going on a trip next month and I've only ever used uni to uni knots.

Seth Fieder showed how to tie the FG Knot. I think he added a nice twist to it (no pun intended).

Instead of saying you don't know why some people think this is a hard knot to tie you can better explain what you are doing. I had to watch three or four times to see how you alternated sides of the knot when twisting the leader. Also I had to re watch multiple times to see which ends you pulled to tighten the knot and dig the braid to the leader. Quite simply slow it down and show what you are doing. Thanks for making the video but could be a lot more clear.

Thanks for the video. I fish light most of the time so I've been happy with the double uni. Just got a baitcaster loaded with 30lb braid and realised I'd need an FG if I wanted any casting distance. This technique I found easy enough that I'm going to give it a try with my 6lb and 15lb leaders next time I tie them.

Just tied it 3x’s on my reels. It’s easy. One last step that I did was to wrap the leader around my foot on the ground and pull up on the braid. Now I trust it. Thx.

Luke, I struggled with this knot today. Ended up catching a few fish and then the knot came undone as I cast my jig head to infinity and beyond. I managed to do it 3 times. My son tied one for me to check my method. He also tossed a lure as well. Any suggestions? Thank you, Mark.

This is extremely difficult if your fingers sweat... And if the mono is too thick it unravels very weird mess..

I use a blood knot for this. It's not fun to tie. Maybe fg knot looks easier. They just took size zero snap barrel swivels of the market. As a result I quit using swivels and just tie knots. I use a loop knot to quickly switch lures without a swivel.

This should be the only way to tie a fg knot! God bless.

Really good video .
I do the FG knot with a pair of vice grip pliers , locked onto what will become your tag end of the braid , hanging over the back of a chair to achieve consistent tension . And then both hands are then free to do the actual tying of the knot .
Once I have it all locked down I put a small amount of super glue on the top of the braid & it won’t go anywhere then .

Man i learned the hard way not to do this knot with your expensive reel on concrete.. if you so this knot, make sure you rod is not laying on the concrete. I have scratched my beautiful Daiwa Saltist.. also protect your pinky finger while doing this.. mine turned blue . I wish i hadn't practice on my expensive rod.. now all i want is to go out and buy another saltist.. i hate scratch on reel. So again, if you attempt to do this know, make sure you put it vertical on a solid rod holder …. Not on the concrete sidewalk and guides touching brick walla. The hard part is not doing this knot,, the hard part is to place your rod so that you can do this knot safely. Without freakin scratching your reel and rod on the concrete.. especially with very long surf rod.
