As a former raider in Vanilla and BC please do yourself a favor and take the abyssal shard trinket. DS/Ruin is a great spec but you can save yourself shards for sacrifices. Raiding Allan get very shard intensive and there isn’t always a good source to restock, especially when putting heavy progression in late bosses.

Just booting up a lock alt now after doing arms warrior for most of classic. And man, its just amazing how versatile the lock is within the dps spectrum. Several very viable end game builds and in terms of leveling it feels like you can almost do what you want. Something might be optimal, but most of it is very viable, and my killspeed and sustain is very high regardless compared to my other toons

Can you guys stop spreading miss information on the drain soul to collect soul shards please. In order to get a soul shard the mob has to give Exp or Honor. Also you can get a soul shard as long as your drain soul is in effect when the mob dies it does not matter what or who kills it. As long as the drain soul is channeling you will acquire a soul shard.

I leveled as demonology not knowing it wasnt the leveling spec.

The macro for having your pet attack when casting a spell is cool. But I prefer to bind pet attack to scroll up and pet follow to scroll down. Its super intuitive.

The quest "An Imp's Request" doesn't seem to be in the game as of yet, any news or am I missing a requirement to get it.

You do not need the killing blow to proc Imp. Drain Soul or to get a soul shard. You just need to have the spell active on the target when it dies to get both.

Abyssal Shard is way better. you keep it forever. Eventually you just replace the staff...

in fact for the most of cases lock could get their T1 even before they hit lv60 lol

you didnt mention the spirit of aquamentas offhand as an option as pre-bis offhand. its the 2nd best behind the drakestone and is probably the best option due to no RNG

Quite a few flaws in this "guide". I've never seen any advantage taking improved drain soul and less downtime just having enough shard and wanding. Also there's no point in Demonic embrace if you do take it as it decrease your spirit to take advantage of mana regen. Lastly while Nightfall is nice to have you should almost never use it while lvling as it's one of the worst damage per mana spells so you'll run out of mana and have way more downtime using SB.

An Imp's Request isnt in p1

i just use /petattack and /petpassive and keep my pets on passive 100% of the time. i tried mapping petattack to immolate at first, but it got way too wonky with multiple mobs trying to multidot and shit without ping ponging my pet.
i love attack and passive because i have total control over the pets. if my void actually manages to hold aggro i can press petpassive and then petattack to have him reposition the mob closer to me if i don't want to chain aggro a pat. if i'm in a dungeon i can put my full rotations on multiple mobs without sending my succy all over the place, and then when the mob she's on is about to die, i can preemptively get her to attack the next one without messing with my rotation at all.


another quality of life thing i get to do is if i'm headed somewhere and i aggro some world mobs, i can just make my void or even the succy attack them, then i get to keep running free without getting dazed or anything. once i get far enough away i just hit petpassive and we're gucci.

The whole bit with pulling your pet off the mob is just bad coding that existed on P-Servers. You can have your spell channeled and so long as it is, you'll get your shard, doesn't matter who kills it.

This is a great guide. But the editing of your speaking is really rough. It just feels so so choppy. But thank you very much for the guide.
