This takes place just before Gordon reaches the surface, after he's watched the marines kill multiple unarmed scientists, not all friends but at minimum colleagues. The brutality is because he knows that they wouldn't treat him any different, and based on the corpses on the ground they already gave him enough reason. Leaving the last marine alive isn't mercy, he walks up covered in the viscera of his squad mate who's brains got bashed in with a crowbar. It's a message, "I've taken everything from you, like you took it from me and now you have to live knowing there's nothing you can do."

Love the karma those HECU asshats recieve here, serves them right. heh heh heh heh ^-^

the idiots deserved everything they got, they came waltzing in thinking they were here to kill some defenceless scientists, a civilian security team and some alien dogs. instead they got their shit kicked in with the madlad security team, mad scientists with otherworldy weapons, actual alien invasion and a pissed-off theoretical physicist in power armour.

the 7-hour war could of been stopped before it began by helping the personnel and freeman stop the fall of Black Mesa, i hope the survivers that ran away realised that when they were been overrun the the combine.

Thank you for portraying Gordon Freeman as not just a protagonist who kills all of his enemies, but just a scientist who wants to survive as well😢

I love how the last HECU Marine panicked and got PTSD from this fight. I thought it was Black Ops at first then realizing it's Freeman at the last part of this video. This really make senses why Gordon survived from Black Mesa. He also ambushed HECU Squad, this animation makes Gordon look like an experienced veteran, lol. Nice animation.

This kind of shows how terrifying freeman actually is in a powered suit and also portrays how freeman can literally be viewed as psychotic in some way even if he is just avenging his friends

God the quality was great, even if it was made entirely within Gmod. This entire short film is just pure bliss and excitement filling

Honestly there's a vibe that HL1 had that HL2 just really lacked, like sure there's way the game can make you feel bad for killing the average CP unit if you know enough of their lore, but at the same time you can make excuse most of it as them siding with oppressors, I like to imagine it's more complex than that, but it can change depending on perspectives.

HL1 however had you fight regular human soldiers, sure you can argue that their horrible people for killing innocent scientists, but at the same time they are still just human, can argue that they were just following orders, say not all of them were evil (like how you don't need to kill any scientist or security guard in opposing force), or just the personal belief that killing other humans is wrong.

Valve also made the conscious choice to make Gordon Freeman (as name implies) a FREE MAN in the sense when the shit hits the fan, you're allowed to do whatever you want while still gunning for the end, like killing your own scientist buds or security guards if you're heartless enough or feel like it, so while in lore Gordon seems like a pretty chill guy, Half-Life 1 allowed him to be whatever in a quite literal and horrific sense, with the few exceptions being scientists that NEED to live for a plot related reason.

So, while I feel some are gonna say it feels cheesy to depict Gordon as this evil looking figure, I feel it best captures that lost vibe that Valve tried to shoot for with Half-Life 1.

Using the voices of "Insurgency" was a great touch for the HECU.

animating something like this in sfm is impressive
but animating it in gmod is beyond impressive.
also, the fact we didnt see freeman until the end really shows how horrifying he is from the perspective of the hecu.
