The Universe is created out of nothing.
The universe started as the big bang but does not expand forever.
The dark energy density will subside in due time and the force of gravity will then collapse the universe into a very dense state. This event can start at any time.
A new universe will emerge after the collapse of this one.

There is no time at the speed of light. It makes the whole universe nothing more than a synapsis firing. The universe is nothing more than a flicker of a thought. Still fun to play in though.

Dear Kraus, permanently irritated by people enjoying religious and superstitious world-views. Obviously, it is not as fruitful in terms of technological flourishing of our world, however it makes life mentally possible or at least easier for many people who anyways dont depend on a scientific world view for their contribution to society, which may even be meaningful, and find some consolation in non-realistic fairy tales to counter the burden of a clear knowledge of reality, which may be intolerably depressing. .

"Inflation" is an ad hoc hallucination to explain cosmic isotropy and incidentally attempt to keep validated the Big Bang to the point of Gospel, and I prefer to think that the SN1a measurements contain a misinterpretation. Ditto for the predicted "vacuum energy" as a resultant of incessant creation of "virtual particles" which then are labeled as "nothing"- a patent piece of imbecility, to my mind... if this is the sort of thing this affair has come to, I would prefer an aphorism issued dozens of years ago by the brilliant semioticist and writer Walker Percy: 'To understand nothing is to understand everything.' I paraphrase it thus: Creation is inevitable, for in the absolute nothingness of the philosophers, there were no laws whatsoever, either... thus absolute nothingness is the prima causa of existence.
