But it can only fire surface to air missiles it has zero surface to land missiles so it's extremely short of capability. A massive oversight from the UK navy, cannot defend itself from sea or launch into land. Not great

I usually like these videos pretty well, but this one was rather boring. Not much to tell, the ship ran through Ukraine waters and was chased off by Russian navy ships. Big deal.

A long and glorious history of Russia shooting at our stuff and missing - be it Daring Class T45 or Rivet Joint aircraft. Perhaps they should stop being so corrupt and actually build stuff they say they can.

Meanwhile, back in reality- Daring would have detected the Russian aircraft from best part of 300 miles away. Her radar can simultaneously track 300 tgts. In a conflict situation, the Russian aircraft would have been blown out the sky well before they came anywhere near Daring. One Type 45 sat in the Thames can defend all the airspace over London- no problem at all.

They maybe cost a lot but it's a disgrace Britain an island, does not have a strong Navy like they have had throughout history. The Navy should be, and needs to be far larger, stronger, and ahead of the game than it currently is. Too much reliance on agreements with others.

I saw one of these docked in Portsmouth when I went on a tour of the HMS Victory in 2013. It looked a bit odd in the distance with it's massive radar tower but I thought there must be some crazy, state-of-the-art tech on that ship, it must be badass. HMS Victory must have seemed like a spaceship to it's crew back in the day. Naval history fascinates me.

strangely pro russian anti uk video?
Pretty damned sure the UK know where they are sailing and why, and they don't ****ing sail right into others territory if its legally theirs , and of course in this case it wasn't, and if a bunch of pro russian video makers have a different opinion, how about they just say that....

This ship is lucky to remain in one piece after those provocations. Risking hundreds of lives of seamen for sake of cheap provocation was irresponsible.

What absolute nonsense (apart from the bits you lifted directly from Wikipedia). The route which HMS Defender followed was an internationally recognised channel which never took it closer than 13 miles to the coast. It is provably true that no bombs were dropped (I have seen the onboard video), and the Russian coastguard vessel used its popgun to fire a shot at Defender long after the latter had left the scene and was at least two miles out of range. There were sounds of gunfire in the distance, which was a gunnery exercise the Russians arranged when they discovered that Defender was planning to do a sail-by on its' way to Batumi. If you want to talk about a tense situation, you should investigate what happened to HMS Duncan when she sailed into the Back Sea in 2018, when the Russians tried with all their might to provoke her into action - a less competent Commodore might have accidentally started World War 3.

This ship may operate quite well if a ship was going to attack it.,, or if An attack came from the air, but like other ships that have sunk to the bottom of the sea,, if an, explosion came from inside the ship, which is a real possibility that could happen,, then your sunk.. With the amount of equipment that is taken on board?? , and the number of people that is needed to run the ship?? That is where the problem would be,.. I hope my point of view as given you something to think about
