I like making it in a crock pot while it is in the can so I do not have to worry about burning it/can do other things while it is cooking and was wondering if this type of caramel would be too thick for the purposes of this recipe.

ОтветитьCan this cake be made ahead and put in freezer? I need several cakes for an event and it would be easier to make the cake ahead and freeze. Also, if you freeze a cake with a Fondant coating, will it ruin the Fondant? Thanks for your advice. Love your Website!

ОтветитьMade this recipe (5/23/24) it came out great! Two things to be aware of when making this cake: using three 9" baking pans can cause timing issues in an oven if they all can't fit on the same rack. I fix this by letting the "odd man out" sit in the warm oven (oven off) for 5 minutes to firm up a bit more. Secondly, If you cook the caramel for too long it will start firming up in almost a candy like fashion and it will be delicious but hard to spread. If using the "softball method" when you first start getting solids in the water you're done. Also, I only ended up using about 1/3 of the confection sugar that I made because the caramel was so stiff from me over cooking (no candy thermometer) but it all worked out. Taste: this cake was echoing and my mother's mind calling her back and she's not a cake eating person😂 Thanks for the great recipe. I always enjoy your great personality.
