Video made it look easy but I have clay soil and small rocks to deal with and the shovel will not go down easily. Even after wetting the soil it is close to impossible to get a clean edge.

I noticed you do not have Bermuda grass… it would definitely overtake that edge within the first week… then on to overtaking that mulch!

Half moon edger is my absolute favourite garden tool! I just wish I had discovered it years earlier than I did!

Which way do you hokd the half moon edger when you cut and fling the dirt from the edge?

Nice job on the video. Tip - Use your steel blade sidewalk edger/trimmer to keep your beds looking sharp/crispy and you will notice no browning from the string trimmer and you can get close to the flowers without cutting a single bloom. Nice turf you have there!

I checked your equipment page for information on your string trimmer! A few years ago I went to our local garden store and the edger they sold me is a gas trimmer/edger. It’s good, but it’s too heavy for me now that I am older and have many more joint, health issues. My husband is even worse than me but he is the oldest and now is 88 years old. I have to hire my yard out now but he never gets here as quickly as I wish and doesn’t edge as good as I would like. When he trims around the flower bed he does it head on and all the clippings go into my bed. Even with a heavy mulch it is not like I would prefer. I can’t find anyone that would do it better so your string trimmer/edger looked like maybe I could handle it. If you could tell me the height of it and brand? I love the way your yard looks and would love to get some edges like you have and would like to give it a shot to see if I could maintain it. All of our kids live in other states and it’s up to us, one way or another. I don’t want to give up now unless I have to. ❤

That has to be the softest ground ive ever seen. Your not doing that with sneakers with any lawn ive ever been on.

i think the easiest and most practical way to plan out an edge is to let the grass grow higher than normal, then mow along the edge while making curves the mower can negotiate without a lot of muscle or hard turns. This gives an edge the is easy to see when using the shovel or edger, (short grass area stays and taller grass areas is removed) and will be easier to mow later.

You should make this into two separate videos. One for the edging. One for the maintaining.

Be sure to wear safety glasses when you use the string trimmer. I got lazy recently and caught a chunk of gravel in my eye. Fortunately didn’t suffer any grave injury and I’ll never fail to use them again.

Cool. I use an edger, but my grass is so thick that I have broken out the reciprocating saw for some hard to cut spots. Works great.
