The CB-CID police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old resident of Pollachi for uploading child porn on a social media page he created. Police said M Manikanda Prabhu, a diploma holder in mechanical engineering, uploaded pictures of children which he downloaded from the internet, and posted them on the page with vulgar comments. He had been doing this for more than a month, police said. Cyber-crime wing sleuths of CB-CID picked up Prabhu from his house in Angalakuruchi near Pollachi, based on the complaint from an NGO volunteer. Police said Prabhu had joined a private firm as a supervisor last week. Police have seized his mobile phone and SIM cards. A court remanded him in judicial custody on Thursday. During interrogation, Prabhu confessed that he had uploaded the photographs and shared them with his friends. He told po lice that after visiting several child porn sites he decided to open a page of his own.One of the volunteers of an NGO stumbled upon the Facebook page on July 1 and alerted police. The team that traced Prabhu is also looking for those who commented on the photographs he had posted. He has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and 67-A and 67-B of Information Technology Act, 2000.
