Santa stopped by the house with the Power items power tool set. Those were freaking awesome!! Sister had the Knockers whichmwerena blast' some friends had chipped theirs. The YardnDarts were normally cool too. Parents friends showed us how to play with heavy caution about NOT being in the way of the thrower, kinda like horse shoes, are they considered "dangerous?"

My brother had the regular darts as you would find in bars and pool halls.

He threw them at me and called me chicken because I screamed and said stop it. He said he would miss on purpose.

He threw it once, and I ran away because it was like 6 inches from my foot. He threw another dart, and it hit my calf of my leg. It bled a lot, so my sock and shoe were full of blood! He said don’t tell mom or dad. He was 12 and I was 8, so he knew better.

The bleeding stopped, but I didn’t come to the table to eat dinner. Mom found out why I wouldn’t move. She spanked my brother, put a better type of bandage, rubbing alcohol and lard as a part of the dressing.

I was lucky it didn’t get infected. (I don’t know why didn’t they take me to a doctor? Penicillin was available.)

Nowadays there is a far more dangerous toy for kids that can lead to permanent injury or worse: The internet. This toy can bring into your very home predators, social media, long hours of no activity leading to obesity., videos advocating puberty blockers and surgery to stunt your natural transformation into an adult, and hardcore adult videos and pics. I’m glad I took my chances with many of the toys in this video over what kids are exposed to today.

We had lawn darts as kids but we were actually smart enough to put the yellow plastic hoop out in the lawn and make sure nobody was around as we tried to get the darts in the hoop. Never had an issue. We also had a "Creepy Crawler" set with the "Thingmaker" that got up to 300 degrees. I made lots of plastic bugs when I was 10 years old in 1968. We knew it was hot and so we didn't get burned. We also knew to put it in a safe place as it baked out our bugs. We didn't use it near clothes, carpets, drapes or curtains and usually put it in our bathtub when baking bugs. Kids aren't always stupid and senseless. We lived on a farm and faced many dangers and so we knew how to be careful. Most of the time. If you've ever stepped on a nail in a barn that went all the way through your foot, these toys were child's play, pun intended. But once my brother shot me in the forehead with a BB gun at 5 yards away. He could have put my eye out!! This is why I said "most of the time" earlier.

I can remember having a blow gun with metal darts, that would go through Sheetrock at 25 feet. No death or damage to living things occurred, as I was instructed on safety before I was allowed to play with it. Any toy can be dangerous if used improperly. Parents need to be interacting with their kids, and teaching them the proper way to play safely, rather than expecting things to be made idiot proof by manufacturers.

I had a skydancer. It was the only toy my mum sat me down and explained she was taking away, and why she was taking it. I’m already so visually impaired from birth I’m considered legally blind. She didn’t want me to lose the little sight I had, so although I was upset, I accepted it as I didn’t want to lose my “good eye” (the other eye is totally blind)

i imagine most of you will remember the toy called BIG WHEEL. well i lived on a hill top house and we had a very long steep driveway. so my best friend and i decided we did not need the back wheels so we removed them and attached 3 of the longer skateboards in place og the flimsy wheels on the back. So the maiden run of course was mine to have so down i went thinking on the way down we forgot something very important....BRAKES! well we figuredd out if we took off that poor excuse for a brake on the side and we replaced that with a part of a hockey stick. Now we're rollin' took another run went to use the brake it snapped an i kept on going......right across friggin' highway 9. none of us ever got hurt and had a blast. now you should hear what we did with the GT snow racers and a graveyard rthat was also on a very steep hill. all the way down across the road and across the river., Now who says kids did not have fun.
