I was in the National Guard and carried a Leatherman. Really came in handy. Cannot recommend a good pocket tool enough.

I thought really what is this guy talking about. I spent 21 years in the Army 15 in the field Artillery 2 Years a WLC instructor and three combat tours with the 10th Mountain Div out of Ft. Drum NY. Can he pass my combat Arms MOS test. And yes you passed with a flying score. All joking aside you really are right that what I had on me 99% of the time. Being FA very few kept a Bic lighter we chewed tobacco mostly Field Arty gun bunnies and big powder bags and smokers don't mix=BOOM.Thank you for the memories, I embraced the suck a-lot but as they say it doesn't feel like history when you are the one going through it. Very interesting! If I could stand the extra weight i would want a good medium sized sheath knife-I make something about the size of a K-bar but w/o the guard- and/or a hatchet. Not some expensive 'tactical hawk"; they don't seem to cut wood well. just a decent small hatchet. A machete or bolo is really useful, but more trouble to carry.

Great video, but I'm missing the aspect of communication. Survival is also about being able to reach out for help. We all carry phones and they need to be charged. I would substitute the flashlight for a Waka Waka Power outdoor solar+ (or similar). It will charge a phone and also act as a flashlight. Don't expect it to charge fast, but it's better than nothing.

I brought a lot of extra non-issue gear to the field, and the one thing I recommend is a decent metal cup. The canteen cup that's issued is good for shaving but makes a terrible cup for coffee. I prefer a smaller flashlight than the basic issue. I kept my P-38 on my dogtags. Extra cloth handkerchiefs is an overlooked EDC item.

I've carried the MP600 basic since the 90s but I purchased the Diesel because of this video. Love this tool. 👍

Sorry but I prefer Leatherman. Plus I carried a Buck knife, folding. Have to have FM 5-31, wouldn't know how to do anything without the Woodchuck. Liked "Write On Rain" field note pads, for the obvious reasons. Good list, just some other perspective from a 21B.

In the Army we called this a "a TL"

I love the Ranger Lighter. The modification I made was to cut two Q-Tips in half, and insert them into the Chapstick at 12-3-6-9 o'clock. Cap still fits. Works great and less messy.

Nice video. Can confirm all this kit and use thereof is correct. One difference - I used sniper tape instead of the duct/100mph/gorilla tape, effectiveness was the same.
