Helicopter Nearly Collides With Drone Off Hollywood

The drone is flying legally. The helicopter is flying too low.

He was under 400 feet and flying above the ocean putting No One At Risk ! The Helicopter Pilot was under his 500 feet and should be given a fine

The drone operator had the responsibilty and legal obligation to take evasive action to ensure not to interfere with the helicopter operation. Instead they chose to place the helicopter crew and, possibly bystanders on the ground in harm's way with this stunt. As drone pilots we need to focus on developing drones for keeping people out of harm's way.

It is clearly time to change the regulations that apply to manned aircraft. It is legal for helicopters to operate below 500 feet in the USA but, given the extreme risk (according to the media) that drones now pose at these lower altitudes, it is clear that a pragmatic approach is required. Limit manned aircraft operations below 500ft to take-offs and landings or operating under a NOTAM (so that others can be warned in advance). Sub-500 is now just too dangerous to allow manned aircraft to use it as/when they choose. Any pilot choosing to fly below 500 feet AGL does so in the full and complete awareness of the risks -- not only from drones but from birds (especially along a coastline area). Just as it is foolish to swim at a beach where there are signs warning of the rip-tide or sharks, it is also foolish to fly a manned aircraft below 500ft where there are birds, drones, overhead wires and all sorts of other things that dramatically increase the risk profile. To be safe, we must be pragamatic.

I just flew California's beaches this week. I can attest that the "whop whop" will put you in sport mode and drop down quick. I can't help but wonder how far away the drone pilot was away from his aircraft...I don't know enough about the situation to pass judgement, but something needs to be done before a drone takes down a helicopter with people in it.

Those shorelines are a constant thoroughfare for small planes and helicopters. Has this drone operator ever been to a populated beach before?

Helicopters should have a minimum altitude while traveling. Some of them go through 20-storeys buildings at cruising speeds (not the one in the video ofc), how does this is not hazardrous? That should be illegal.

Video is fake... Go frame by frame... the waves are smoothed around the helo and watch the skids on the passenger side dissapear in one frame and back in the next. Also the N-Number is not real characters. on another frame there is a chunk of the rotor that is accidentally attached to the horizontal stabilizer

FAA regulation for drone pilots are allowed to take their drone up to a maximum of 6000m which is just above 19,000ft (as long as you are above the sea)

Helicopter is unmarked, there is no number to ID the aircraft with. You can not operate a helicopter like this with no markings, it can result in a fighter escort and jail. Please don't post fake videos, You are the news, you should be better than this.

Is it just me or does the helicopter look very game/CGI?

If this were real I would love to have that drone that experiences absolutely no turbulence after being buzzed by a helicopter. In the real world the video would have gotten very shaky when the gust of the chopper hit it. Also notice that you can see the chopper coming for at least 10 seconds but it is totally out of sight in the 5 seconds the drone pilot took to pivot around to see where it should be. A helicopter moving that fast would likely send the drone out of control for a bit and the video would show that.

Another reason I'm thankful my mavic air 2 comes equipped with ads-b sensors and alerts me to the presence of manned aircraft nearby.. Should be standard feature considering the price for parts on ever drone. Period.

This drone is above 400ft. You can see the top of the The Westin Diplomat Resort (444 ft) and this guy is pretty much level with it. It also looks like the drone is illegally flying in Class C airspace next to an airport (FLL) where the airspace is restricted Surface to 4000 ft MSL. Whoever is piloting the drone is extremely reckless and stupid, and is going to get a hefty fine and possibly be prosecuted.

I think this is fake -- Equation - Frame RATE 30 / X=520 / 2 seconds X blades RPM = x 15 or the Drone ISO settings adjusted when the helicopter was near

I'm just saying this and I know I am telling the truth but I just love the helicopters and planes but I just wish people can watch on what they're doing or using the sky like I hate it when people use this the green lights because it can blind the helicopter drivers pilots and the plane pilots but not like that people find their drones up high and that's what could cause an accident I switch people can think about the people's lives and stuff like that
