I have absolutely the same scenario: "Video Editing on MacBook Pro M1", thanks for the video. I have bunch of SSD's it's time to find more convenient way to keep footage safe. The main complain I heard with NAS colleagues say "you must have UPC otherwise you can loose your data!"
Did you find a solution for that?

Hi Brian, hope you are enjoying your TVS-472XT. I have two more questions for you. First, can the two Thunderbolt 3 ports be connected to two computers, or are they like those on a OWC Thunderbolt DAS, only one can be connected to a computer and the other is for daisy chain? Secondly, how noisy is your NAS? Since you can’t be more than two meters away from it, do you feel the noise distracting or annoying while you are editing? Thank you very much for your answer.

Great info! I have a Lacie 6BIG 48TB. It is Thunderbolt 3 and i also bought 3m Thunderbolt 4 cables for future proving. The price of these cables are insane but i guess that's what you have to pay if you want higher speed and reliable cables. Thing is, i'm not sure if there are even other brands who have these type of cables. Which is why they are so expensive i guess? If there is no competition they can ask whatever they want.

Thanks for sharing your decision making process. You have been very thoughtful. I just had a very bad experience with Sinology DS1522+. After initial setup, I could not log in even once. Numerous phone calls and emails back and forth with Synology tech support for several days. The problem persisted and they stopped responding to my emails. I had to return the defective unit. I am not sure if I still have the courage to try my luck on another NAS. If I can muster enough guts, I will probably buy a QNAP 474. You chose 472ext for the thunderbolt port. I would prefer the faster CPU on the 474.

Wow, thank you so much for making one of the most informative videos I've ever watched- period! I'm an M1 Mac video editor making the leap to my first NAS and after watching your video, I'm going to make the same move to a QNAP 472 =)
