Endocytosis (featuring a real amoeba and white blood cell!)

Sometimes, a particle that the cell needs to bring in is too big to pass through the membrane. In such cases, the cell can do ENDOCYTOSIS. During endocytosis, the cell membrane encloses the particle that the cell wants, trapping it. The membrane then pinches off to form a vesicle with the particle inside. The vesicle can then move into the cell.
White blood cells use endocytosis to eat and destroy bacteria and viruses.
This amoeba is also doing endocytosis in order to munch its lunch!
