Christianne, this video is gospel! I was in Scotland last weekend and I made a group of friends in the kitchen of my hostel, and we went to the sister hostel for trivia. I made friend’s w a guy there and he traveled to Glasgow with me and we went to a candlelit dinner, and it was so normal. I love backpacking/hostel culture.

is 18 to young to go travelling solo?

Now, i am in hostel just get in. I am the eldest iam 30 while these students my hostel mates are like 19 to 23. It's very hard i can't get to them with my full potential and beings friend with them. Well, we chat but as soon as that ends i am all alone. I also used to have social anxiety too. But not much, but as i grew older i think i get into more of it. Because at home i am all alone and that's even make it's hard to make friends in church too. It's exhausting. I dunno what to do anymore. I don't have a real close one friend.

I had a little trip to Bucherest solo. I am here 48 hourse and I barly spoken to enyone which is weird considering that I am what people wood call an extrovert.
I am starting feeling lonly... But I also kinda like it cause today I visited a bunch of places and now I will go home watch a movie and then sleep like a baby XD

its kind of hard to find a person alike, especially when I look for friends, and others look for couples, probably every guy, but getting a long with females is not really for me for long term friendship, I get along with guys , but probably all of them thinking like - if ur here it means ur mine, no no no, I just want a cool fun adventurous company

I just got back from turkey, while i was there i went to Antalya and decided to go explore around 1 A.M. then i got lost for about an hour I decided to go into a bar while i was there I started talking to the bar owner and his family, I ended up leaving at 8 in the morning because of how well we all got along. The sun had risen and i had met some amazing people i will for sure see next time im in Turkey!!!

Hi! Thanks for this :) Do you think that if you stay in a private room at a Hostel it reduces your chances of making friends as opposed to sharing a room? Do people who share a room end up sticking with those people? Or are there just so many opportunities to make friends and meet people?

Ok but what if you want to be social and make friends however you also would rather stay in a hotel???? Hostels are not beneath me, I just would prefer my own privacy and also stay in something a tad more up-market 😇 I have watched so many videos on this topic of solo travel however all of the recommendations have been based on staying in a hostel and backpacking 🧐

Should I go to Thailand/ bali or Australia/new Zealand . A pro of bali/ Thailand its cheaper but its different language to English, and its my first time travelling alone.

Great tips, I like meeting new people thu I don't feel comfortable doing so.. Meeting guys is normal in dorms but meeting girls is more normal in sitting rooms.

What if you really not feeling talking to unknown people?

I met so many people on a solo trip in Montreal that I made a video about it! Hostels are great for that.

I had my first backpacking trip 2016 in Europe. First 24 hours I was panicing and thinking "this was a mistake". Then I thought I have to be social or I'll be alone during this trip. And I'm usually shy and nervous, but somehow I was a completely different person during my trip. I was courageous and more social than normally. It took me years to gather strength for this trip and I'm so glad that I finally did

I'm going solo traveling next summer for the first time but super worried I won't be able to make friends as I'm only 16 and I know the majority of backpackers are much older.

Anyone feel like Hostels just aren't for them? You only ever meet people from similar cultures, with the same privilege to travel, and if you do meet anyone from more interesting countries they are middle class and privileged too and in many ways just very similar to you, (privileged bieng they have the money and opportunity to leave home and travel).

If you go to Italy, wouldn't you want to meet italian people? If you go to Poland, polish people etc. I also feel travellers tend to be very hippy and sometimes a bit weird.

The biggest dislike I have about backpacking is you constantly meet new people and then move on, they move on. There's so little opportunity to build strong frienships. So many repetitive "so whre are you from" conversations and the turnover of dormmates is constant.
