They arent the bad guys per se. The problem is that the pensions have unrealistic expectations and benchmarks that are ridiculous in scope. This then pits pension funds against retail through hedge funds. Pension funds want unrealistic returns from hedge funds and the end result is that hedge funds try to steal it from retail. Hedge funds are the result of soulless pension plans from unions who only care about profit and earnings even when the investments the hedge fund makes doesnt compliment or even go against the industry that the pension is in. The people picking the hedge funds are the problem.

What you said about Soros is so wrong. He didnt trigger a crisis. He just recognised an oppertunity. The british currency was destined to devalue because of bad policies. Soros knew that before it had occurred. What did he do to make some money. He took huge loans in british currency in order to buy german currency. So when the british currency devalues , the loan he has to pay becomes cheaper by a lot. That what he meant by selling sterling. All of this was done at a really big scale but billions arent enough to crash a currency. The currency market is so big billions are peanuts.

Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you’re investing into can’t make good use of that capital. So if you’re trying to invest into businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they’re returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It’s not much different from bond investing. The way I see it if you have a $1 million at some point, that’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k-70k in dividend income...
