Hey guys, after some careful consideration we decided to reupload this video. We weren’t satisfied with the render quality, could have explained the situation better, and made several small errors throughout. So despite all of the wonderful comments, and attention the video was getting, we felt it would be best to put up a more polished effort for the long term.

We’re really quite sorry about this, and appreciate all the feedback we received. Thanks!

Uncle Jebediah and Jeffrey said now you two are done getting the horseless engine going, can you stop burning all their moonshine and get to work on the mash boiler.

For an rebuild engine, it looks pretty grimy: you'd think they would have cleaned it before the rebuild? Cleanliness is always a must when overhauling any kind of engine. This makes me wonder about the professionalism of the rebuilders? The seal ring on the flywheel was not installed properly? I don't think I want them to overhaul my boat engine.

Why are these not balanced though? Isn't that a big thing with engines? I feel like if I pulled out my car engine and tried to start it on the ground it wouldn't run anywhere :)

We had a 4 cylinder diesel run away on an 80 foot racing sloop I sailed on once. I forget the brand, so I won't guess. I DO recall, however, being terrified as we struggled to strangle it. Which we did. So did we sail into the harbor like heros? No. We did not.

Whenever you have an engine with a valve lifting mechanism, you can stop the engine by lifting the valves. It will stop as it will lose compression.

Back in the late 60s we had a lister diesel on a cement mixer run away .. turned out the new labourer used the wrong starting crank to start it... in reverse, was an entertaining end to lunch break..

I see your amendment to "runaway" and I will say that it was still a runaway. Any uncontrolled running up of a diesel (or similar cycle) engine is classed as a runaway, even if the fuel source is its regular fuel.

I helped my dad install a new (used) kubota engine in his tractor and first start it ran away. That is a special type of fear when inches away from an engine thats running well over redline and scrambling to find a block of wood to choke the intake.
