I've been a an engineer for 31 years. I drove truck for Schnieder National for a few months in 1997 between railroad gigs. I got to pull a couple of Roadrailer trailers back then. Pretty cool to see them actually on a train. Schneider had a number of trailers back then for designated roadrailer service. We had to be careful when hooking up because of the tounge on the front of the trailers not hitting the fairings on the back of the tractor. I run for CN since then. Would be to see that service from Winnipeg to Chicago.

The old Triple Crowns (30+ years ago) used to have the "railroad wheels" attached to the trailer. That was a lot od weight being hauled around by the truck tractor and also limited the weight they were able to load into the trailer. That was about the time when JB Hunt ordered all those containers and chassis and revolutionized "Over the Road" trucking.

Use to see them all the time in Upper Sandusky and Crestline when Conrail was around. I even think Triple Crown had a place in crestline out by the old roundhouse.

How do the trailers not stretch or break from the weight. No support from rail boogie to rail boogie

I'd like to see how they hook them up together. Then a kinda silly question have the train hoppers figured out how to catch a ride yet ?

Who wants to bet against railroads paying less for non-road use diesel fuel than farmers pay for their tractor fuel? Anyone?

It is interesting that a truck trailer can handle the force of pulling the long train behind it.

Graffiti is an eyesore and cheapens cities. I hate it! EXCEPT when it is on rail cars. Trains are the perfect canvas for graffiti and I have seen some really creative examples.

If the cars are only pinned to the car before them and built so light what happens in a accident plus how would the braking system compare with brakes intended for toxic loaded cars Another railroad saving money and America paying the price in a derailment And there's thousands every year

How do they link each individual boogie to make them brake...?
Nowadays, all the trains, as far as I know, are always with the brakes activated. The locomotive sends pressure to open the brake pads so the train can move.
Are these boogies connected with pipes.... or this train has no brake system.... ? 😨🥴😨

Lovely dogs at the end !!!! Of course, leader by Chesie 😂

Good video. Bravo !!! 👏😄

My uncle worked for the railroad years ago and he had a regular passenger car that had steel railcar wheels that were deployed by a motor lifting the tires above the rail and then turned the steel wheels by friction so it would ride on the rails

I remember them being tried out in the UK in the mid-1960s. A whole train was built and demonstrated. Nothing came of it and I guess it was all scrapped as containerisation took over completely (at the docks as well). Travelling cranes just hoisted standard large containers from flat wagon to road truck to ship. I cannot see how a single rail axl;e per roadrailer unit could have matched the speeds at which bogie flatcars travel.
