Kindle Direct Publishing Explained: Is KDP Worth It in 2020?

If you are an unknown author, it is the only game in town. The only place you can realistically get your work published without a lot of money or connections. So if you want to see your work in print, yes it is worth it. That said...It is a closed shop. I have published 8 books. When i started, the book was listed on the first page of the kindle app when you first publish it. Now, it is buried. Why? Because out of the 1 in 10,000 books that will actually sell, there are millions sitting in a data base collecting...add campaign money by the tens of millions for Amazon. So they make it in your best interest to buy advertising or your book will never get seen....As well, if you do not list your book in kindle Direct, where readers can download it for free, paying Amazon a small monthly fee, it will not show up when you do a search on Amazon unless you search by author. It is a huge money maker for Amazon. And that money is made by making it very unlikely anyone will read your work unless you buy advertising. And weather it sells or not, Amazon is making bank on your work....for free.

I have a couple questions: Is this safe for teens? Do you need to have a separate business in order to publish?

How do you click on the DIY publishing course for beginners? Clicking on the image you are pointing to on the screen just pauses the video and there is nothing in the info under the video that has it either? Thanks

Hi Dale. I created ABC flash cards in Canva and when I uploaded them into KDP, the formatting was ALL off. They were in PDF format but I’m in the process of converting them to Word DOC format. I’d like to see a video that shows the proper formatting for ebooks, the correct size of the pages and things to consider before I go to upload my book. That part is not complicated. It’s getting the right format and using the right type, such as DOC and Moby. I’d like to see a video on how to make this process easier. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you

Do you happen to have a video of what NOT to do on KDP? I heard if you do some sort of rule breakers that your account will be either expelled or terminated.
Also, I made my own copyright infringement and wonder if I could use that for other books I’m wanting to make in the future? Will that be against KDP’s rules?

Hi. Can you tell me WHY on my KDP space I cannot delete a project that has never been published: it is a work in progress thing and I cannot delete the project - i cannot published the same book on another KDP space because the ISBN is NOT accepted with this explanation "ISBN is already attached to another book" - my book has never been published not sent to revision and it seems that Amazon KDP has taken a grisp over it...

Is the KDP worth it for a french audience ? Is the french global market as worth as the english one ?
You said at the start that the exclusivity lasts for 90 days, is it right ?
And if yes, what happens after that period, are you free to publish to other platforms ?
Finally, I want to publish my ebooks via the Draft2Digital platform, do you know it and if yes, do you think that I should bypass it and go straight to Amazon or use them ?

hey Dale!! :) They only distribute to those 9 different regions you said on the video? let's say say that someone from Portugal (where I'm from, and where my main public is) would want to buy my book, it woudnt be possible? they won't send it? Also, can I post my ebook for free with them or do I always have to have a price? If yes, (and eventually if they send it Portugal), can the eBook be free and the book have a price? Dale, I got my children’s book out on KDP and paperback, thank you so much for your teaching. I chose their free ISBN and I think I messed up - I cannot use it to distribute the paperback through IngramSpark.😩 is my only solution to create a different ISBN for my circulation through Ingram spark? I don’t know if it makes sense to have the same book floating around with two different ISBN numbers, but don’t know if there is another option.

I spent 7 years coming up with my 250 page book of arranged sheet music! They want me to let it go for 9.99?! For 70 cents on the dollar?! That's highway robbery!! I would easily charge over 25$ to have it sold in print!!!!

A history of Executive orders of our presidents was the book I published in 2010 with Createspace. Bought by Amazon, there has never been any support. One or two books sell a year.
“Executive orders” are a hot topic right now.
As we get more sophisticated on publishing, it seems traditional publishing companies still give stronger publicity.

Just published my first book, “Good Dream Kiss”. A children’s rhyme bedtime book, new and nostalgic parents should enjoy.

KDP select seems to have given me a bump in new releases... I assume KU borrowers and such.
