Should You Buy the Sony a6000 in 2018?

in 2022 and still use an a6000 with a cheap flash for events so I can safely say yes.

I recently bought the Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens. I love it. Thankfully, Sigma is making great affordable E mount lenses to help Sony and give users more options without having to use an adapter.

Does it still have an overheating problem when shorting long videos? I have been shooting pics lately so I haven't tested it.

Also, even though they added higher video quality last year it really isn't usable if you are hand holding. Too shaky. You need a lens with OS or you should use a tripod.

You are right about the battery life. I have two batteries for casual shooting. You will need more of you are working with this camera.

I just started using mine again and I was surprised to find out they had a firmware update last year that added higher video quality. I don't think I have ever seen a company add features on such an old camera. Usually they are always trying to get you to buy the latest model. I give Sony credit for this. I do not like that time lapse is an expensive app. Nickel and diming people for a feature the camera should have had in the first place is not nice. This should have been added with the firmware update for free. Personally, if I had money to buy a new camera now I would get the newer models with a fully articulating screens. It really helps to get unique angles and it makes it easy.

No lag for me when shooting in RAW with my a6000.
ONLY downside is battery life... but you can buy a few extra batteries and bring them charged ready to go

saw the news of a6100, once i read the spec, i immediately bought a used a6000, after 5 years sony didnt make much of an upgrade, and i know my used a6000 will still hold its value for at least a year or 2

i shoot an a6500 but just bought an a6000 brand new for 229 .... thats crazy money ... even in 2019 ... makes a great back up body that you dont care where you take especially coupled with the cheap sigma 30mm f1.4 or sony 50mm f1.8 ;-)

I have two that I'm thinking about upgrading to the 6500. I use them for underwater video and b-roll. Honestly, the camera is really nice and solid for cost and ease of use. Things I'd like to have: Slog, 4k, better dynamic range. The thing is though, underwater it's a perfect camera.

I just order a6000 ain't no way I'm buying the 63/64/65 and blowing more than 1k on a camera right away. Thanks for all the pointers it made a lot easier for me to get a6000 instead.

Really at a crossroads right now I love my Canon 7D Mark I but I recently got an a6000, and while I love the formfactor, and the speed and superior iso, the price of lenses and the rock solid build quality of the 7d keeps me reaching for my dslr.

I'm going to buy the A6000 very soon in a kit where there is also the 55-210, a Camerabag and a SD Card in it, for only 750 € all together. I have switched from the Canon SL2. The A6000 is a small Little Beast! 😁

Great video! I bought one a couple weeks ago, even tho i've been a Nikon shooter since 2011. I own a D800, with 5 lenses so my bag is quite heavy. I use the a6000 with the kit lens and a 50mm 1.8 oss for casual, travel and family photos, so I don't have to worry about weight

I actually just purchased a used a6000 for sub $300. I’m going to be new to photography and from speaking with, what I would call good photographers of the subject I would like to photograph, most use this camera. It’s been recommended to me time and time again as a good beginner camera based on price point and function.

I just bought a 6000 with two lens kit for a backup and for the wife to use. Sam's Club had the whole kit on sale for $499.

what is a good lens for aperture for the a6000, a5100? :)
