Why would anyone bother cleaning ears if it don’t bother you let it stay in. The issue is when it’s itching and really annoying you need to itch it with something.

Letting water and some soap get in your ears while taking a shower may be the best solution for many people who still use Q-tips. I have stopped using Q-tips since 2011. Thank God.

But when your doctor finds extra earwax they don’t clean it out? Or when a kid has a bunch of wax built up they say and do nothing? Do we have to ask the doctor to clean out kids ears out every so often? That’s unrealistic. Especially in America

I do the Asian cleaning ear of every once in a while scrapping it out (I go poor man style and use a Bobby pin) and after every shower I do wipe the ear out with a small towel. Occasionally I'll pour hydrogen peroxide in the ear canal. So far doctors tell me my ears look fine. And it beats paying for another doctor visit to have a professional do the water extraction when it doesn't work really well on Asian ears and I don't want to buy pharmaceutical grade ear drops

My solution is to use Mucus, yes that sticky neat mucus from your saliva or nose pour a long one into your ear use a q tip to arrange it inside your ear do not put the Q-Tips deep inside your ear instead use it to arrange the mucus so it can rest well inside your ear then remove the Q-Tips.
By removing the Q-Tips the sticky mucus will follow the Q-Tips and then the dirts or whatever was disturbing you, even stuck water will be attracted by the Mucus or flip your ear. You're welcome. This is something I discovered myself.

I’ve been using q-tips my entire life until some months ago but today I decided to clean my ears with q-tips again and there was a crazy amount of earwax in there.. I’ve been rinsing my ears with water but I’d never think of using soap. how am I supposed to clean them with soap though? I’m not supposed to stick a finger covered in soap in my ear, am I?? that just doesn’t sound very safe.. please let me know.

Inserting Q-tips or any objects into the ears for cleaning can lead to several serious problems:

1. *Ear Canal Injury:* Q-tips can push earwax further into the ear canal, causing blockages and potentially leading to injury to the delicate skin lining the ear canal. This can result in pain, discomfort, and even infection.

2. *Earwax Impaction:* Attempting to clean the ears with Q-tips can actually push earwax deeper into the ear canal, leading to impaction. Earwax blockages can cause hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and dizziness.

3. *Perforated Eardrum:* Inserting Q-tips too far into the ear can cause damage to the eardrum, which is a thin membrane separating the outer and middle ear. A perforated eardrum can lead to hearing loss, infection, and other complications.

4. *Infection Risk:* Introducing foreign objects into the ear canal increases the risk of introducing bacteria and causing infections. The ear canal is a sensitive area prone to infection, and using Q-tips can disrupt the natural protective mechanisms.

5. *Misdiagnosis:* If you have ear symptoms like pain or discomfort, using Q-tips can make it difficult for a healthcare professional to properly diagnose the underlying issue. The Q-tip may remove discharge or fluids that would have helped in determining the cause of the problem.

6. *Cerumen Removal:* Earwax (cerumen) serves a protective function by trapping dust, debris, and harmful particles. Removing earwax excessively can disrupt this protection and lead to dryness, itching, and irritation.

It's important to avoid inserting Q-tips or other objects into the ear canal. If you're experiencing ear discomfort, excessive earwax, or other ear-related issues, it's best to consult a medical professional who can provide safe and effective solutions for ear care.

I am almost 30 used q-tips for as long as I can remember and never had any ear related infection or illness. Just don't ram them be careful and do outwards motion where you get the tip inside then press onto the canal and drag outside. Don't be an idiot and it'll be fine.

I wonder if a tongue scraper would work (not an actual one) but a really small one hypothetically, it would scoop out the wax easily I think. The size of a Q-Tip but a small scraper instead of cotton

I learnt the lesson the hard way. Q tip and earbuds… deadly combination. They had to literally chip out a rock form my left ear. Now only headphones and not for too long and the tips are to clean the entire outside of the ear and around the ear canal opening - not inside. Wax is flowing out on its own
