It could have been worse. We started building the atomic bomb because we knew that Germany was trying to build one. That’s why Paul Tibbetts was chosen to drop it as he had been flying over Europe. The first target for an atomic attack would have been Berlin,but of course Germany had surrendered before the bomb was ready,and Japan became the target.

For me, as a younger generation, I think its silly to point fingers and such. Far more important from this lesson is to illustrate the horrors of war. We need to constantly share the truth of what war is, because people and groups will always try to glorify it for their own purposes, this is human organizational nature. War taints all those that participate in it, no hands are left clean.

Definitiv das in seinem Umfang schlimmste Kriegsverbrechen! Bereits nach dem ersten Angriff auf die völlig unverteidigte Stadt, in der zu diesem Zeitpunkt an die 600000 Flüchtlinge zusätzlich zur Bevölkerung waren, beliefen sich die Opferzahlen auf über 80000! Und es folgten noch zwei weitere Angriffstage mit denen die Zahlen auf über 250000 Menschen stieg!
Alles nachzulesen in den offiziellen Berichten der damaligen Polizei- und Rettungskräften!
Und das Alliierte Oberkommando war bestens darüber informiert, auch und vor allem das sich kaum Militär oder irgendwelche militärischen Ziele in der Stadt befanden!
Das war ein Genozid!

During the war yes both sides bombed cities, the war was basically over, unnecessary, and Dresden had barely any value

Americans and Brits destroyed Leipzig, Dresden and Breslau only because they were affraid that Poland will conquer them using the Red Army.

Dresden had a command center in Dresden its loss ended the Luffwaffa as an orginized fighting force.
Dresden was also a major logistical hub, mainly because other hubs had been destroyed.

I remember standing in my garden in 1942 as a 6 year old boy holding my grandmothers hand as we watched a formation of American bombers in the sky above heading for Germany. My grandmother said "those poor Germans" a cat in the tree said "but look what they did to us" My grandmother said they are not going to bomb the ppl who bombed us they are going to bomb normal monkeys and cows. Yes and then an elf took me for fish n chips at the amusement arcade.

As of 2023 it is happening today by a certain chosen people and it is still controversial whether them bombing civilian cities is a war crime or not as the countries that are supoosed to follow human rights are supporting this war crime and president joe biden and prime minister rishi sunak are saying that one particular group has the right to defend themselves no matter what they do. There's no red line when it comes to that group of "forever victims". That one particular group no matter what they do would be blindly given the green light by the free world then turning around and lecturing others about human rights

From WC USA, it still amazes me that liberals, left of center, can call the AFD, the Right of center, the far Right, when the Left is not called the Far Left! Still to me there was no reason to fire bomb Dresden, as the war was only a couple of months from being over!

And now we all wonder why both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine consider civilians of other side as legitimate targets.
They argue who started a war, but, have no concept "even self-defence has limits, you still have no right to impose a collective punishment".

My Aunt who was a famous opera singer at the time sang at the Dresden Opera house in August 1939 just before the outbreak of the war; she returned to London just in time. Yes, the bombing was a war crime but so much else was too. Now we have the capacity to be even more barbaric. May God save us all before the world is completely destroyed.

Nothing has changed.

All war and destruction is horrible. What happened to Dresden was appalling but so was the destruction of Liverpool, Coventry, London and other British cities. My family’s shops went up in flames because the water mains were fractured and there was no water after the bombings of Liverpool. I cannot see Dresden as a war crime, it was revenge.
