It feels like Sinner claimed Medvedev's soul in the QFs, then reincarnated as Medvedev in the 2nd set against Draper.

Sinner tested positive TWICE and never missed a match. I don’t care what kind of BS excuse he had, if you are making millions top of your sport you know exactly what’s happening around you. This entire run is a sham, he should not be ranked number 1 and shouldn’t even be playing.

Playing in a shirt the size of a tent maybe doesn't help Draper with sweating.

Sinner was superb - still didnt play his best tennis. Draper gave a super performance first 2 sets. Sweat indeed was extreme. But I checked the weather first set - 28 degrees C and 80% humidity - both temp and humidity had dropped by 3rd set. Difficult conditions.

Was the stress of the event what prevented Draper from playing more dynamically ?

Draper played to Sinner's strengths. Trying to outhit Sinner won't work. He should have adopted some surprising tactics and changed his hard hitting game with change in pace and slowing the game if he has to have any chance.Even some opportune net rushing would have helped to unsettle Sinner.

But he floundered tactically.

Draper looked like chaos to me and I was shocked at how many interuptions the Chair Umpire allowed him and did not call hindrance. Balls popping out of pockets stopping Sinner from serving to mop the court, did not even try to rush after his break between sets, again when Sinner was ready to serve in the 3rd.. Maybe you can explain if you have ever seen such a chaotic mess from one player in a semi match before. Thanks Gill.

Very interesting analysis, for example, on 1) Sinner getting to his spot quicker when under pressure, allowing more weight transfer into the forehand, and 2) Draper working to shorten points, which made him more aggressive (e.g., coming to net more), even though the point length stayed about the same. Keep up the good work, Gill!

Great assessment of the players and match. It was obvious. Not the highest level but understandable for many reasons and at the end the expected winner won! This was a just get through it because this is mentally a lot to deal with.

This is where Gill shines , such a sharp observation about Sinner stance.

I don't want to name names but the other channels aren't that good at doing analysis, they just merely state how the match went.

Excellent analysis Gill.

Draper talked about being an anxious person and thats what contributed to the vomiting. It shows in his tendancies to double fault in tough moments

Good analysis as always. Jack's first serve being below 50% in felt the biggest difference maker, his serve hasn't been great all tournament (and is still a work in progress since the shoulder injury last year). He gets the serve % back up and he gives himself so much more of a chance.

Its something that Jack is working on and has made big strides in, but he's not yet able to overcome his nerves. I feel there are paralells with Sinner's journey - he gradually built resilience mental and physical and when he had he started being lethal. Big big contrast yesterday in the two players. I remembered though the semi final 2023 Alcaraz/Djokovic - and how Carlos was just consumed by nerves - and he was already a GS champ and masters 1000 champ, so its not surprising Jack is not there yet with handling these big occasions. But a great week for him nonetheless. His coach seems like a tough cookie, too. I believe Jack will go onto bigger and better things.

Ive seen draper in3 sets where he'd jus lose physique and retire many times. Hard hitting, lots of deuces, many more serve attempts and longer points just got him fast. Sinner's calmness i think saves him energy in the long run. They both played great, Draper had a very good run, he has more muscle build so that takes account when burning more calories. Thank both of them for such entertainment tho. Nice review of the match.

Gasquet was always sweating enormously, and when he was younger, that created endless issues with blisters. He came with the solution to change his grip every two games and he became the undisputed GOAT of it ! Also he has an enormous buttcap to prevent the racket of flying of his hands. Draper should practise this.

Love Sinner but his performance this year is making me doubt him more and more and believe the doping suggestions more. I hate that I'd begun suspecting him earlier this year only to be 'proven' right. Still hope I'm wrong. He's really so talented.

One of the things that Draper was missing is trying to put pressure on Sinner psychologically. In the 2nd set he was leading 5:4 and 6:5 and had an excellent game, but his body language at those moments just didn't project any confidence, so it was much easier for Sinner to equalise and take the tie break.

Hey Gill, just wanted to ask a question about the GOAT debate for mens tennis. I think anyone would have a hard time arguing that Novak isnt the GOAT at this stage, but who would you take as the 2nd greatest of all time, Federer or Nadal? Most people would instantly assume its Nadal because he has more slams, however I don't think its that simple. Whilst Nadal leads in slams, masters, H2H and his unhuman record on clay, Fed leads in every other catergory. More weeks at number 1, more titles, more hard, grass and indoor titles, gs finals, semi finals, and 6 atp finals to Nadal's 0. Who are you taking?

There should be immediate stoppage if someone vomits on the court. Particularly when he ralphed during the tiebreak and there wasn't time to clean it up on the changeover. Vomit is a biohazard, and although it doesn't seem Jack was actually suffering from a disease, he COULD be... and you know they wouldn't have let him shake it off and choose to continue play if it was blood on the court.
