ОтветитьHad all the same issues with batteries, discharging within days from new, August replaced the lock and same happened with the replacement - similar WIFI connectivity issues with router less than 3 ft from lock and everything else was connecting fine (also use Eero). August lock went in the trash about 4 months ago.
ОтветитьThat's the reason why I bought the August Smart Lock Pro (3th generation) it uses AA batteries and comes with the Wi-Fi bridge separately which makes it more stable since you have to plug it directly to the outlet. So far so good.
ОтветитьAppears to be operator error,
Only somebody that owns a Airstream would have a problem with a SMART lock.
Your real issue is having the small side window next to your deadbolt. A burglar would pop that single pane of glass and unlock the deadbolt in about 5 seconds. If you are going to keep the windows then you need a double key deadbolt.
ОтветитьMine works great with the August app but doesn’t work at all on home kit. It just says not responding. RFID is what I wanted but America hasn’t seemed to embrace rfid.
ОтветитьWe own one of these and so far it’s working great…those different color pegs you might had the wrong peg for your door and that why it wasn’t working properly…
ОтветитьThe August Smart Home LOCK with connect is not only not terrible...its GREAT. Its almost always on the top of You Tube top 5 or top Smart locks for its simplicity of design. It's brilliant the way it adapts to your existing deadbolt preventing the need to change anything else about your home lock system. There is nothing about it that isn't brilliant. From the easy way the wings clamp the device to the elegant plate that easily mounts to any door. Even the way the magnetic battery panel removes with a gentle push feels like a miracle. I had set up problems but August Home support is open 24/7. It usually took ten minutes hold to get to an agent. If you get disconnected the agent calls you right back without hardly skipping a beat. Setting up wasn't a flawless experience. But once you are set up you are set up.
As the evening went on the August Smart Home Pro just got better and better. Soon it was running it with Alexa and I was programming a new Alexa voice command routine to unlock the door for ten minutes then relock it so I could let someone in. I never did an Alexa "routine" before. But the locks abilities stimulated my imagination and creativity. Making a routine was intuitive fun and fast. Operating the lock by voice or the push of a button from anywhere in the house or out in my car or someone else's home from 20 miles away would end all sorts of headaches. Never again do I need to wonder if I locked the door. I will always know if I left the house with the door ajar. When I drove from the house and got 200 feet away the door locks itself. When I pulled into the garage tonight my August unlocked the door without me doing anything so I wouldn't have to fumble with my keys or press a number sequence. Its like a little miracle. I am sure other devices do the same but few are as simple to mount.
I don't know if I should bring this up but our friend here is out 300 dollars. I picked up my August Smart Home Pro for just $63 dollars tax and shipped price by bidding the old fashioned way on EBay. You can probably find one on Offer Up for 80. Or buy it new on Amazon for about 200. Mine takes the Double A batteries and came with the Connect hub to use with Siri, Alexa or Google. And perform the other neat proximity tricks.
Its amazing how little he does know about installing "IT" hardware. I ran into the same problem. The August lock app could not see my wireless address. Smart home devices still frustratingly work only on 2.4 in a world where most of us are using a 5G/ 2.4 home network.
EASY INSTALL FIX for any SMART HOME device
Your modem has both 5G and 2.4. Unfortunately 2.4 cant be heard over 5G but fortunately 2.4 has greater range than 5G and the simple solution is to move about 100 feet away from your modem and set up the device from there. In my case this means I have to step out my front door about 6 feet. Fortunately the August Connect box is small and portable and plugs into an extension cord making it easy to move into the "2.4 only" zone. To find the zone simply look at your WiFi address settings on your phone. It will say 5G until you get far enough away and then you will see it switch to 2.4. The August app or other smart home apps will then see your wireless address without fail.
(AUGUST is no different than when I set up my smart bulbs and switches. You don't necessarily need to bring your devices to the 2.4 zone but the application needs to be there and the devices have to be close enough for the app to see them.)
Does Schlage work with HomeKit? I have the August 4th gen smart lock still in the box. I am returning it because if you have to replace battery every month then it defeats the purpose of having a lock. even three months is not enough. Still searching for a good Homekit smart luck even if it requires a hub
ОтветитьIt's definitely your wifi... it needs to be 2.4 ... Not 5 or 6ghz etc... the battery is dying fast because it was struggling to connect and disconnect between your phones bluetooth and wifi.. which it wasn't compatible with..
ОтветитьYou are right. This lock completely sucks. Classic example of poorly designed tech being pushed out the door too soon. I wrote tech support, but have had no luck with any kind of response. Avoid this company.
ОтветитьWhy do you keep saying the video was made on July 9th?
ОтветитьI have problem with same lock, mine works everything fine, but auto unlock doesn't work. I have the 3rd generation too, no problem with that one. I have contacted August support and the technician said they are aware of this issue.
ОтветитьNo problems with my wifi so far (I just installed it a couple of hours ago). But it’s a piece of shit with HomeKit, it’s unresponsive every time I use Homekit to lock or unlock it. I had similar problems with my Weiser Premis Smart (I mean Dumbass) lock but not as bad. WTF Apple?
ОтветитьThe batteries are so bad! I get about 1 month then I have to change it this is also my replacement lock I got from august. I don’t think I will buy their products again! Batteries are draining to fast and the batteries are not cheap to buy!
ОтветитьI am so disappointed too. I had the same issues as you (just not as often) i replace the batteries every 2 or 3 months. It disconnects from the wifi. Now when I unlock it is doing trying to either fully unlock or lock itself back for 10-15 seconds and then gives up (no error codes/notification/red light) I am also an IT (10+ years of experience). I tried calibrating it but after doing everything it ask me to do it stays at the calibrating loading process with no end. I think I will end up switching to the one u got. How is it working for you so far? Would you recommend it?
ОтветитьFirstly, sorry to revive an older video that you seem to have resolved. I have the same August Wifi lock. But i've had minimal problems with it. Batteries is the main complaint I have with this model of August lock. Not saying I haven't had any issues, but very minimal. I had the original gen 1 one as well. I had all kinds of trouble with that one. I know quite a few folks that have these had some have mountains of issues and some don't. Bottom line is that I feel like it's luck of the draw. I am always on the look for products that will integrate together. Right now, I would like for all the smart devices I have to be able to integrate with my Ring security system and Homekit. While August does integrate with homekit, it doesn't with Ring. I've recently seen a relatively new lock on the market called Level Lock. It is a pure bluetooth lock though and won't integrate with Alexa or Google at this time. But it will integrate with Homekit and if you have a home hub, you can use the lock basically like August and it will integrate with the Ring security system so I am seriously considering replacing My August locks with the Level Locks. My goal is to be able to only have one app to control all my smart devices and I feel this is a really good start.
ОтветитьIt has to be on a 2.4 ghz network or it won’t work properly or at all. Your probably on a 5 ghz
ОтветитьYip same issues with my 4th gen. I contacted august, they promise to send a bridge when in stock and to send me two batteries (lol). Yes two! Meanwhile I have placed a crap load of those expensive batteries into this dumb device for over a year now. I hate it, and regret ever purchasing. It doesn’t work well with my partners HomeKit on his phone but it works with mine. It’s just not a great product. I urge you to look at better options. Maybe I will try the sense lock he mentioned. August isn’t it!!
ОтветитьKeeps losing wifi
ОтветитьAugust many problem connect wifi ,,i my august cam pro stop working and august bridge wifi stop working ,, i pay all shitt didnt work out ,,
ОтветитьThanks dude. Was just about to order on the recommendation of my locksmith. You saved me from endless frustration 👍🏽
Ответитьcouldn't agree more! my battery die every 4 to 5 weeks i am done with this lock, currently looking for a replacement .
ОтветитьThanks. Was about to buy this. Now must start again on my search for a reliable lock that uses a changeable code for my short term renters.
ОтветитьMan I wish I had found this video sooner before buying this piece of garbage. I have the Yale Nest on the front door and it's worked perfect for years. Then I went and bought this one for the back door trying to venture into something different and have to replace the batteries monthly, which are not cheap. Then as of 2 days ago it just decided to go offline. I'm also in IT, so I've tried everything short of factory resetting my router with no luck.
Ответитьwhy not just buy a 4 pack of rechargeable batteries? They are ~$40 and you can just keep switching it out. 🤔
Battery life is a fair complaint; seems like the 2.4ghz configuration can be done with some specific routers.
I share your sentiment. I had to get a replacement sent out and it started having same trouble after 6months! Basically the deadbolt doesn't completely turn anymore, so it will think the door is unlocked but you can't open the door! Calibration feature in the app does not fix the problem either. Both locks failed between 6-8 months!
ОтветитьYou're video and comments are right on the money. I also have this lock and it eats batteries faster than a rabbit in a lettuce patch. I've tracked the usage and it consistently wants new batteries about every 40-45 days. I've been able to buy the CR123 batteries on Amazon in multi-packs to get the price down to about $2.41/ea. But when you have to change the batteries every 40 days (that's nine times in a year) even at $2.41/each (times two batteries per change) you're spending over $43.00 + a year in batteries. And in case someone reads this and asks "how many times do you lock and unlock the door every day?" Well I'm here to tell you that I use the app maybe once a day to check the status. The unit is not set to auto lock or unlock. I manually lock and unlock this thing. I wanted to see if just having the batteries in the unit drained as quickly as normal use. Answer: yes.
Batteries aren't the only problem, like you my lock suffers from going offline frequently. Additionally, the "Door Sense" feature stopped working and I can't get it to work again. After resetting the lock to factory defaults and starting from scratch, the lock goes in to a fit where it looks like it's trying to lock but just makes noise and rotates back and forth about an 1/8 of an inch. Very disappointing for a device that costs so much.
I'm going to take out the batteries and just use it as a typical deadbolt for now. Maybe there's a hack out there where you can connect a 6-volt DC power supply while using "dummy" batteries in the slots.
If anyone is thinking of buying a smart lock, skip this one.
The lock has worked perfectly fine for me and I recommend it, but I agree with the seemingly OVERLY CONSERVATIVE low battery warning. As a test I’ve been ignoring the warning for weeks now to see how long the batteries actually last.
ОтветитьI agree with you: August locks are crap!
ОтветитьI had the same experience with August. Be glad you didn’t buy their horrible useless keypad for $60. They stall until the warranty runs out and then claim that it’s on you because warranty is up. Terrible business practices. Their tech support couldn’t support a donut using their own teeth. It’s sad, in an expensive advantage-taking kind of way.
ОтветитьWell even if it worked perfectly fine but killed $15 batteries like that, deal breaker for me!
ОтветитьMine died in 9 months, daughter can’t find the receipt. August won’t replace it.
My batteries last a bit longer.
I know this is an old video, but as long as you got bluetooth on you don't need the internet. When my internet ent down but it still worked.
ОтветитьI have 2 August gen3 locks with bridges on my office building. I was wondering how long batteries last with gen4 since wifi is direct to the lock now and you have proved exactly what I thought....not long. I had Arlo cameras that used those 123 batteries and they claimed they would last a year. Right, maybe if the camera was turned off. They lasted a 30-60 days tops and at $30 a pop per camera (4 batteries each). Thanks to your video, I will stay with Gen3, they work great. I'm able to monitor and operate from anywhere in the world. Do the Schlage Sense locks allow monitoring and operation remotely via wifi? Can they be set up to automatically lock at a certain time every night? August does not have that auto lock capability.
ОтветитьHmmm... And I haven't had a single problem with my August lock since I bought my first one, the Gen 2 one... and the Gen 4 one. Not one problem. Don't know what to tell ya, but 1st, that 6 pro, isnt' 5 feet. It's more like 10. Not that that should make a difference, but that Apple hub is also like 15 feet away... again, not that that should make a difference either. But, if you're going to embellish and distort something as simple as distances, I can only assume you're doing the same with that August lock, given that my experience with August is exactly 100% the opposite. So... don't know what to tell ya.
ОтветитьAhhh hahaha!! I feel your pain bro!! I bought a 3rd Gen August smart 🔐 about 2 - 3 years ago & have had NOTHING BUT NUCKING FUTS problems out of it. Batteries ALWAYS dead, long connectivity times with Bluetooth, Z wave functionality unpairing on its own! 1st the connect module crapped out... no biggie, I said, I have Smartthings wifi I'll just connect it to zwave & call it a day! I have to literally take out a battery & put it back in to get it to react to either (Smartthings zwave or August bluetooth) app! I bought a sledgehammer just for when I replace it.. Just wanted to let you know it's not just you, this lock is a CRAP sandwich!! Have a good day sir.
P.S. I hope u recorded breaking the August smart lock so u could enjoy the moment again & again..
I just bought it and it stops working the first day on my first Airbnb guest
ОтветитьI have problem too
ОтветитьI still think the Standard Gen 3 August Smartlock, with it's more traditional design, is the best looking one and also the best with functionality. USes standard AA batteries, battery life is good, better than Gen 4, and it is obvious how to lock and unlock it. I know it still has to use the Connect Bridge to get remote functionality, but it just looks good and the bluetooth works so much better than the Gen 4 with the WiFi built in. I think the WiFi built in chews up the battery quickly and interferes badly with the Bluetooth.
ОтветитьHi I understand your problem I’m having similar problem for me I can’t even called them in I don’t know too much about computer or talking on the computer so if by chance you have a phone number could you send it to me please I’m Ernie from Illinois
ОтветитьI have a different model August lock and every couple months it just stops working. Nothing in the app works anymore until I replace the batteries and factory reset the piece of trash. I never even get low battery notifications. I have gotten the run around from support since day 1 and now it's out of warranty and they won't do anything about it. All they do is blame me. Today they said my app was out of date. I literally uninstalled it and downloaded it again from the Google Play Store. They still say it's out of date. Well what am I supposed to do about that? They have told me to build a wall in front of my door so I can plug the stupid connect thing in right in front of it. This company is hot garbage. Avoid them at all costs.
ОтветитьI bought two and while it works pretty well I'm sure I will regret it. They don't connect to wifi half the time. Bluetooth is fine but the other day I had to wait a couple seconds. I bought these so I don't need my keys but pretty sure one day I will be stuck outside but at least my main door doesn’t use a smart lock.
ОтветитьI monitor the uptime on all the wifi devices on my network with an app and even though the August lock is the closest wifi device it is up only 67% of the time and is the worst of all my devices. That is why it eats batteries like crazy too. Kinda like when your phone is constantly trying to connect to wifi while you are flying on a plane. Cheap wifi adapter in these devices translate to this. There is no reason that the size of battery should drain this fast or that a new IoT device at this time should have these kinds of wifi issues. Having bluetooth option is nice but you have to be close to it and contributes to the battery drain.
ОтветитьI’m also having significant issues with the August lock; they even sent me a replacement unit, and the damn internals gets jammed and break after a couple of years from inside. Thanks for the vid. I’m going to replace it with something else. I hope I can find something that works with homekit.
Ответитьsays works in IT, has two sharp angled walls inbetween wifi and august lock, doesn't understand signal refraction.
ОтветитьThis lock is the biggest POS on the market today!!!
