Superb tutorial! I’ve been restoring an old Eko acoustic guitar using automotive finishing products, so my approach to cutting and polishing has been similar to the techniques shown in this video. Last night I bought a set of pads from Amazon. As I was waiting for them to arrive, I took the time to dig into this well-presented information. When the pads were delivered early this afternoon, I was ready to roll. It took about an hour-and-a-half to do the guitar’s body. The results were far better than anything I’d tried before. The body is shining like it just came off the production line—maybe even better! Thanks for helping me to finally get the results I was hoping for! After the holidays I’ll be building an electric guitar from scratch, along with refinishing one of my old favorites. I also have a number of repairs to do that will require proper finishing. I’m really looking forward to using everything I learned in this video. Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Pan,
Awesome video. I don't know if I'm lost or if there's another video that talks about the shampoos (wash) and then the chemical decontamination. I could not find the links for those steps in this video? Can you set me in the right direction?

So, do you throw away the foam pads? I'm hoping the brush cleans them too. My guess is that the foam pads are kept clean my immersing them in water to keep 'em clean, as you use them?

Hi Pan! Im going to be doing my wife’s car soon. She mainly has scratches from car washes and rubbing against the paint by walking past the car. Could I dive right into polishing or should I compound first? What’s your recommendation. Hope you can help.

Uh oh Pan, I hit a snag. My brand new truck came with a ton of swirls EVERYWHERE. I think the dealer may have used a filler wax because after only a month, I’m finding even more marks, including a roughly 5” circle that looks like it was from a polishing pad. I tried TWs black pad (Lake City if I remember you saying correctly?) with their 1 and done compound and nothing changed. So I then tried their microfiber pad and it took it right out. I then fallowed with their orange pad and finished with the black pad. It looked great…..until I put a light up to it and can still see some swirls! What could I be doing wrong? This was a test run for a ceramic coating being applied. I’m using the G9 DA.

Hey Pan,

Hope you’re doing well. I have a question for you. I plan on buying a cheaper polisher (Griot's Garage G9 Random Orbital Polisher) to polish my car and would like to start with the MEGUIAR'S compound and polish. Can you explain to me the difference between the MEGUIAR'S / DA
MICROFIBER FINISHING
PAD and the MEGUIAR'S | DA
MICROFIBER CUTTING PAD. Is the finishing pad for the polish and the cutting pad for the compound? Or is the cutting pad for both? Hope you can help.

You mentioned something about “as long as your car hasn’t been repainted” I have a 23’ Tahoe that was not painted correctly from the factory and the dealership had to repaint. They left horrific swirls and scratches in the clear coat from where they repainted. Do I need to do anything differently to paint correct? Or be aware of anything special?

Can you restore headlights with a machine polisher? I'm assuming you still have to apply a clear coat to the plastic when you're done.

Hi, excellent video! I would like to do some paint correction with the intention to prep the surface for Gyeon Cancoat. I have 2 cars, a brand new Tesla MY with minimal swirls, the other is a 13 year old BMW with lots of defects. I don't want to get every single foam pad Lake Country has, considering I'll need about 6 of each to do one car. What would you recommend to minimize cost and still be adequate to do the job for both cars?

Hey Pan, I just finished a rupes course and my polishers finally arrived but my only concern right now is, is it safe to polish under a polycarbonate sheet roof? I'm going to use the whole rupes system but I'm afraid of the heat produced by the sun and the sheets.
Thanks in advanced

If the paint isn’t as bad can you get away with using just a polish, and not a compound? Because I have a dodge charger widebody. I think it has very soft paint. It scratches if you look at it lol.
