I'm was a bit surprised that European and developed world Asian economies aren't investing more heavily into anti-aging research given their demographics and the economic disaster that they represent, but then I remembered the absolute shitshow that has been any attempt to increase the retirement age and - in Europe at least - governments seem to have a vested interest in making sure that people aren't collecting pensions for too many years. Still, that leaves Japan and South Korea's more balanced individualist/collectivist (also mono-cultural and pretty racist) societies that just might benefit from government funded research and rollout of anti-aging therapies.

“We’re trying to rewrite how clinical trials are done.” Suppose that these rules can be rewritten more effectively and more timely in other more progressive countries. The US regulatory system is engaged in ensuring that big pharma has a profit mechanism so as to treat, not cure anything. It’s a perverse incentive, but treatments are much more lucrative than cures. So we must look to more progressive countries.

The rules need to exclude mere improvement of exercise, diet, and sleep regimen. Everybody already knows that the primary way to extend the life of a sedentary person is to dramatically improve their diet, exercise habits, and sleep length and quality. If this prize includes submissions like that, it won't add any new information about aging reversal to the world's collective knowledge. The opportunity to use the prize money to encourage development of something new would have been wasted. In addition, if the test subjects chosen in one case are very healthy but in another case are sedentary, this will be like comparing apples to oranges when trying to gauge the effectiveness of each treatment against one another. These details need to be discussed and worked through.

In the end, I don't care where the money which is used to solve humanity's most pressing and dire problem comes from. Aging kills 150,000 people a day. Ethicists may feel free to compare that to, for example, one journalist.

It a fake contest because if your are going to be testing on people you need to have each contestant start with a 100 million. Also if someone is successfully then 100 million is chump change. The answer is already there with developmental biology and the Yamanaka factors its just a question of its implementation and the control of cancer development. It also sad that we will have to keep hearing Peter Diamandis give his speeches for several 100 years.

I'm confident George Church and his lab will win this competition. Gene therapy seems like the best way to go.

It sounds suspicious on the basis of who's not included, which you mentioned, but there are others too. Will there be independent measurers and what, exactly, are considered valid tests of de-ageing? The measurements available are themselves controversial already.

I was impressed by the xprize announcement, then I read about Sam Altman’s $180M donation to Retro Biosciences and that's still not enough money now. I think it will be a large combination of so many institutions and it will likely be much further out from 2030. Zuckerbergs recent investment in the immunity projects was welcome news too.

Take the Saudi money! With their history it's about time they do some good to the world.

I would like to have the regrown tissue for knees and if only we could take this aging pill when we are 50 so we can feel more like we are in our mid 20s that would work out really well. Then in the next 10 years they might be able to come up with a way to download your brain into a much younger body.
