Star Citizen: Development & Controversy

Still no plans on any kind of update video, since stuff like selling land/in-game money is just more of the same issues in a different coat of paint. Predictions of course were wildly inaccurate since I didn't suspect the game was ludicrously farther behind than what they showed in their attempt to sell tickets to CitizenCon 2016.

Just watched this in 2024...wow. I love this review even more because it still hasn't come out yet.

Not gonna lie, I had been out of the gaming news scene for a while and when Starfield was released I thought it was star Citizen... Then I remembered that couldn't happen

I kinda miss this style of Mandalore documentary/review. Little more upbeat, little more conceptual. Love the new stuff too.

I have played star citizen but am not really a fan. I will say that it has vastly improved since this video and they have since created their own engine. They say they want to finish the single player game before they finish multiplayer. They have also hired voice actors, like people from Star Wars. So maybe it will happen. It does look interesting. I think it has great world and it’s very pretty, my problem is the world feels empty sometimes. Like there is stuff to do, it just dumps you in with no explanation

They released a trailer this year and the comments of it still felt like I had crossed over into an alternate timeline, maybe trailers are useless from someone who has had 10 years to make something and still hasn’t?

When i first heard about this game i was in middle school. Since then, I joined the Navy, got marrried, graduated college, and had a kid. I have a whole new life since then, but no new game.

Seven years later.....

Watching this in the end of 2023 is hilarious. Every few years I think this game is cancelled, but nope, SOMEHOW people are still paying for this money laundering scheme

X series has always existed. X2 sucks but X3 was amazing.

I like to see Star Citizen limping along. I think it'll eventually be close to what was promised, unless it runs out of money, which also means they need to work harder on keeping money coming in than on actually finishing the game. I also feel like the game is pretty close to Sea of Thieves, though that game absolutely understood what it'd take to be a "do anything" pirate game and was willing to cut corners to realize that vision. Star Citizen wants to be a "do anything" space game but refuses to cut any corners, so it's never not going to be a bloated buggy mess, which means it's never going to be "finished", even if it "launches".

I saw this video on its upload and has Star Citzen been released yet? I was in my early 20s now im looking at 30s creeping up 😂. Jesus this must be a game for the next generation.

I just realized...star citizen and Cyberpunk 2077 were announced the same year. Cyberpunk has since been released in a shit state, fixed, and gotten a resurgence before SC released anything official. Holy fuck.

How about an update now?

One of my new favourite aspects of this video is that Star Citizen is now in 'early alpha' (pre-alpha, I think). As such, the ever-so-humbly-named Roberts Space Industries has been making a marketing push to get people to spend money on it-- uh I mean play the game.
Booting up this video and getting a 'Star Citizen - In early alpha now!' advertisement is the funniest shit.

This video and the couple before it are rough diamonds compared to your later videos but I am impressed by how good they were from off the bat. There's a lot of subtle things but the background music and its mixing with your audio is the biggest and a great improvement.

Eleven years.
