I still don't understand what the benefit of hand scraping
It would have been easier to assemble the machine without this step
Does this have anything to do with Flatness Surface ?

Hand scraping is an art for the finest precision machine tools that require mechanical accuracy without compensation.

Amazing craftsmanship. I have seen many Matsuura mills in shops that were running non stop production for decades without any problems. I still see some of the old red Matsuura machines around from time to time.

Interesting Japanese style of what we call "hip scraping." Labor-intensive and very satisfying with end result worth the extra effort. Excellent results!!

It is interesting how were made first machine tools when there were no machine tools?

Is there any other method for achieving similar mating of surfaces? Let's say you would wire EDM a casting into two pieces, would you still have to scrape to achieve good contact?

It's not easy to change geometry of assemblies by scraping especially large one. Respect guys!
