"We need to take back control and have control over our products. Currently, Google Nest 7-inch speaker screen has a serious problem ever since their most recent update. We suspect it may have something to do with the Thread protocol for low-latency IoT devices, as it has disabled user control over the service port.

In the previous version, the speaker screen can use an Ethernet adapter, using the standard Ethernet protocol in user mode. This allowed it to function like a PC, simply requesting internet access. However, with the new update, it forcefully requires a Wi-Fi connection for hardware reasons instead of seeing the ethernet adapter right away and using that as its gateway.

The more Wi-Fi products you have that you cannot physically control, the more potential security holes are created. We are well aware that IoT devices often have security vulnerabilities, and this new update opens a potential security hole for anyone to exploit, especially now that it operates on the IoT-centric Thread protocol.

This change means that once someone gains access to your network through a network hole, they can easily navigate their way to the rest of your network. In contrast, the previous version acted as a PC, using layman's terms, and only requested internet access. Other Google products still operate in this manner, acting as simple internet access devices even with USB ethernet adapter is connected to them.

The Nest Hub's 7-inch screen acts as the master device and will disable your entire network if it is plugged into an Ethernet adapter. This is because it attempts to simultaneously use the Thread protocol and an Ethernet adapter. However, disabling the service port as a direct user mode Ethernet connection is not the only problem.

Many people around the world prefer and require Ethernet products for various reasons, one being that radio frequencies can cause migraines for some individuals.

There is an area in the United States called the **National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ) facilitate scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence ncludes portions of West Virginia, Virginia, and a small part of Maryland which is a large area of land designated as a radio quiet zone. transmissions are restricted by law to facilitate scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence
Everything there operates on either old-school or direct connections, with no Wi-Fi, cellular, or radio. Unfortunately, not everyone can live in such a city, so many of us do our best by using as many Ethernet products as possible, not only for security but also for health reasons and a lot of people deliberately move therefore medical reasons as well , unfortunately we all can't do that.

However, with the removal of the Ethernet user mode, it is no longer possible to use Ethernet-based products with Wi-Fi-based products together in certain scenarios. If you have a group speaker system or nearby speakers for communication, you cannot have them grouped together. It's a choice between using all Ethernet or all Wi-Fi. Since Wi-Fi still operates on a "wait your turn" protocol, proper synchronization does not occur, leading to frequent signal interruptions. If you attempt to use both Wi-Fi and Ethernet together, problems arise. For instance, if one speaker is near another speaker, both may try to respond simultaneously. Due to Wi-Fi delays, systems can easily become confused, answering the wrong unit or misinterpreting questions, statements, or requests. This causes further headaches and frustration when simple commands cannot be processed, even if you are just one foot away from the intended product, as a product located 10 feet away or more may somehow hear it first due to Wi-Fi delays but if they were all ethernet connected which they used to be that would not be a problem simply because ethernet is not on a wait your turn basis and hardware can understand who comes first via ethernet instead of wait your turn Wi-Fi.

Honestly, these products need more user interface options, allowing users to choose the protocols they want to use. For example, users should be able to decide whether they want to use the Thread network or use a product as a router. Users should also have control over how they want to use the Ethernet adapter and many other features. Since it's a closed network, where Google could easily provide a simple interface where users can go through the options and select their preferences. This way, users can ensure their security, health, peace of mind, and sanity are not compromised, instead of leaving everything solely up to Google's control. We need more choices and control over our hardware. It's not that difficult to implement software for hardware and offer users special screens that ask how they want to use new features or whether they want to enable specific functionalities.

Unfortunately, Google seems unwilling to give users more control. If this trend continues, we could find ourselves in a situation reminiscent of George Orwell's novel '1984,' where the speaker dictates what we should and shouldn't do. We have recently witnessed an incident with Amazon's speaker system and delivery company disabling their hardware because they falsely accused someone of being racist. It is crucial that we take back control."

It has a temperature sensor for the sleep sensing. But of course you cant use it for room temperature Becouse they want you to buy a separate sensor for that

None of these devices seem to have a compelling use case. The phone in your pocket does all of it and it's automatically in the same room with you.

The google nest hub, is and could be a good tool. Although amazon alexa is one of the more most known devices out there, this new nest hub by google could be a hit. But some things aren’t as good with it. Meaning it doesn’t have a variety of things as the amazon echo has.

The new nest thermostat also has solei sensors, it turns on the display as you approach, it does a pretty good job and doesn't use much battery, but that doesn't use it for gesture based control, so in fairness it's good for some things

Okay, I'm clearly in the minority here, but the moment you said the new nest hub has sleep tracking I was SOLD. I'm currently using a 200$ sleep tracking lamp that's barely being held together by tape, and having an option to replace it other than another (admittedly, much better new version of the) 200$ lamp was an instant selling point for me

Just FYI...you better enjoy that sleep because it can be over in a heartbeat. I haven't slept more than a 2 or 3 hours in any night since my only child was killed in a car accident after her mother decided texting was more important than watching the road in 2014.

Just sayin ....
