Hey! Thanks for all the great comments. One thing that has come up a lot: At a few points I use the term "professional match" or "professional cricket" when I should have said "league" or "professional league match." International Cricket is also very professional! When I said "professional cricket" I was referring to the T20 cricket leagues that exist in India, Australia, etc. and are somewhat analogous to sports leagues in other countries, like Major League Baseball or the Premiere League. International cricket is also professional, and international play is the highest level of professional play.

Only one ball is used until an official decides its too damaged to continue using,lf hit into the spectators it must be returned to continue play unlike baseball where the spectator can usually keep the ball.

The most significant difference between cricket and baseball (which any player will notice immediately) is that a cricket ball is larger, harder and very much heavier than a baseball.

One point you left out is that in test cricket, you not only need to outscore the other side to win, you also need to dismiss them all out. (In international test matches, twice.) You can outscore them by hundreds of runs, but if you don’t also take their last wicket, all you get is a draw. (Of course this also leads into a discussion about declaration and following-on, which would be beyond the scope of this video.)

Like all things british, in cricket you need to take permission to play or ask for confirmation from authority ( umpire). This game is every british stereotype ever.

A lot of the more obscure aspects become clearer during what are called "reviews", where the umpire gives a batsman out, but the batsman disagrees, or when the umpire doesn't give a batsman out, and the fielding side disagrees. Each side has a number of reviews, and either use one up if a review fails, or get it back if it succeeds. It is very good at explaining the intricacies of LBW, for example.

Someone has probably already comment about it, but here goes anyhow. Fielding positions. In baseball the shortstop might be as close to he batter as 85 feet. If you look at the cricket position "Silly Mid Off" (or "On"), you're about 30 feet from the batter. To play that position a bloke needs pretty good reflexes.

One big difference that I didnt see, although I admit I have not gone through all the comments, is the bowling/pitching. For starters, in Cricket, the bowling arm must be straight through the "pitch" unlike baseball which allows the ball to be "thrown" with a bent arm. If a Cricket bowler bends his arm during the pitch it is considered a "no-ball" and a run is awarded (plus the "over" gets another ball... eg 7 balls vs 6, unless the bowler cons=tinues to deliver "no-balls).
Another interesting and major difference is the type of bowling/pitching caused in the most part by the seam of the ball (straight in Cricket and twisted in baseball). Basically in Cricket there are two major categories - pace bowling (fast or movement in the air, like baseball fast pitch)) vs spin (movement off the pitch, either "leg" break .. movement toward a right handed batter's leg ... or "off" break .. movement away from the batter). Also, like baseball there are many other variants of bowling/pitching - bouncer, googlies, yorkers, etc etc.

Hey great videos. I think you missed a crucial detail. Wides and No Balls not only garner an extra run but the ball doesn’t count which means the bowler has to bowl another delivery to replace the illegal delivery. Another point is that batters can keep any additional runs scored by the faulty delivery. It’s not uncommon for a wide or no ball delivery to be hit or run the boundary for 4 or even 6

One of the big differences also is that inI baseball the play is still "alive" when a batter is caught out but in cricket the play is "dead"

One little item, only the wicket keeper has a glove, the fielder's field bare handed and cricket balls are as hard as a baseball. Other than that great video.

Yeah, this is actually a great video, I don't see anything really wrong. I think you could simplify it by saying cricket is a game with 2 innings of 10 outs. Baseball is 9 innings of 3 outs. So in baseball, if a batter just clipped the ball very, very slightly, and the catcher caught it, would that be out? It would be in cricket, but I don't think I've seen it in baseball.

It is international because of the British Empire. When a colony was added the English rounded up the local lads and taught them cricket. Since then we English have had to sit in gloom watching the likes of Gavaskar and Kohli smack English bowlers all round the ground and been thinking that we might have made a mistake.

Good explanation. Fell in love with Cricket whilst traveling in Australia and was staying the the Hilton (I don't think it's a Hilton any longer) across from the MCG. There was a test going on and my friend came down from Sydney and we'd go over and she would give me the run-down. We'd sit in the sun of the afternoon with a Foster's and just had a blast. So much fun. I am blessed now to be in the Atlanta, Georgia area, where there is a large Pakistani and Indian population and several Cricket leagues have popped up. So fun!

Each team’s turn at bat is called INNINGS not inning. There is always an s at the end. The foul ball (ball hit in the stand) has to be retrieved and used for its allocated life (number of overs or runs batted). The ball is bowled, not thrown or chucked. There are a maximum of ten outs in an innings not eleven (there could fewer than that if the batting team declared or decided to end their innings sooner. Only the wicket keeper wears gloves, fielders use their bare hands. There is no designated hitter or batsman. All batsmen field. There are no extra innings when time runs out - a Test match may end in a draw or a tie. Errors are not posted on the scoreboard. Cricket is like certain foods and cuisines - need an acquired taste.

Americans - hope you join the mainstream world and play the wonderful international game. Not - you are too impatient and judgmental. I was born overseas but have lived in America for over 45 yrs. I learned to enjoy baseball, American football (armored rugby), basketball, ice hockey (compared to field hockey) etc. Give it a shot
