The CMA React to EU Approving the Microsoft Activision Deal

The CMA reacted to the EU Approving the Microsoft Activision Deal and it would seem that they are sticking to their original findings in the case. The CMA has received a lot of criticism for its decision to block the Microsoft Activision deal over cloud gaming concerns, and that includes the EU. While the EU agreed about the cloud gaming concerns, they completely disagree about the remedies offered by Microsoft, going so far as to say that it will promote competition instead of harm it. In addition, the CMA response we also get to hear from Microsoft and Activision about their stance on the matter.

The CMA Blocks Microsoft from buying Activision Blizzard is big news and will likely impact Xbox's ability for the next few years in regards to Game Pass strategy. The CMA Blocks Microsoft and the Microsoft Activision deal blocked is not good news for competition in the gaming sector according to Activision and Microsoft. The Xbox Activision deal blocked is also unexpected for many. The FTC will continue and Activision and Xbox will have to delay any plans they had in the near future as it relates to the deal closing. The big concern of a Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox future was not a major point the CMA made, but instead, it was about Cloud Gaming. The Xbox news today is all about how this will delay any goals about Microsoft and Xbox or even Activision had. Jim Ryan and PlayStation are also expected to make a comment soon.
