It turns out that Matthew Thorne is Rupert’s brother.

This was of the only times in the series where it was only Bruce in the room, not Batman or a mixture of the two

Matthew Throne had a few answers about Batman's father. I was just kid when I sew this show on Kids WB and Cartoon Network.
Good times. It was a long time ago. I was living in a house above a river at the time.

One would think that doctor was like a second father to Bruce Wayne now. Pity he didn't appear in any other episodes afterwards.

The smile on Dr. Thorne's face when Bruce asks him to tell him about his father. That is something he can do for Bruce and do gladly. Still makes me tear up 30 years later.

For some reason that line “tell me about my father” just felt like a gut punch

One of the most powerful moments in Batman history. The desperation, the sadness and the joy. This show deserved a Peabody award.

There are some things that money can't buy, they are just to priceless. This was one of them. When Bruce said "Tell me about my father," I had a sense that Bruce felt - internally - the 8 year old who had just lost his parents that fateful night and all he could do was desperately clutch for the memories that others had of his father. This ending was well executed and bittersweet.

It's to bad we couldn't hear what he would have said about Thomas Wayne. Whatever it was, I hope it helped comfort the void that is in Bruce - for what its worth.

Here’s an interesting fact, I’m almost positive that JLU made a nod to this scene in season 3 episode 11 title ‘Ancient History’ at the end of the episode.

Watched this episode for the first time last night, and wow the emotion in Kevin Conroy's voice gave me a lump in my throat. I couldn't watch anything else after that episode; I just sit there fighting tears knowing that there are other people like Bruce in this world who yearn to know about their parents, who have passed away when they were young. Glad to see that other people were touched by it too.

Why can't we get a similar scene in Star Wars, where Luke asks Ahsoka the same question?

I remember getting to this ending during a TV syndication in high school, and it was that brief moment right there where I saw Bruce Wayne at his most human. And Kevin Conroy made that brief line "can you tell me about my father" sincere in retrospect.

"Tell me about my father"... it makes me tear up because the man asking that is not Batman neither Bruce Wayne but the little boy who lost his whole world that night on that alley. 😔

Scenes like this are why the animated series was a master piece. It took the risk of showing the tender human side of Batman and making the villains sympathetic.

I've personally lived this moment I met my father at 26 an only had 8 years with him then he passed away of a heart attack but what I can say is from the minute we met up we became friends I didn't judge him for leaving all I told him is I just want your time so this video gives me strength an tells me I was not selfish money doesn't buy respect or love it's a feeling that's from the heart ❤️ batman lives in all of us we just try to see what villain or hero we will be but we will alll love someone youd have to be human to understand that 😢❤

This is probably the only time bruce is genuine when he sadly asks about his father from mathew thorne's perspective since he's probably already heard alfred and leslies' perspectives, hearing about his dad from another close friends perspectives gives him a better understanding of the man his father was. Since we all know how hard it is for bruce to think about his parents let alone talk about them.

One thing DC animated has on top of WB live. Is that they make their characters both alive and consistent.
Meanwhile WB ones just go for the flashy stuff, empty shells without anything to back them up.

This show was such a masterwork.
Combining story, music and voice work into something that was able to draw in its viewers, not just into the action, but into the essential human elements that took it from being just a cartoon, transforming it to a work of art.
