My family is Sicilian and Southern Italian. They remind me of the scene here. You either have to be cooking something or eating something. My mother and grandmother always had company over every night. The cooking for dinner would start the night before or early in the morning. A "small gathering of friends and family meant about 50 to 70 people. An entire lamb, Eggplant, 12 or 13 chickens, spaghetti and lasagna with ravioli. They made it all and that's not counting all the vegetables, potatoes and side dishes plus desserts ( sorry. No Bondt Kek! It was hard to tell when the meal finished because 30 minutes after dessert , somebody always wass hungry again

As a girl from the Balkans I can say that Gus really under reacted there. My dad would have gotten furious and my house would be a screaming feast

Gus was my second favorite character in this movie (after Voula)! He reminds me so much of both of me grandfathers that I loved so much despite their crazy beliefs and values.

FINALLY - I’ve been waiting for a really good movie to go see!!! I go to VERY few movies (maybe 1 every 3-4 years) because they don’t make quality family oriented films anymore. They are either scary sci-fi flicks or excessively violent action idiots or overtly sexual or have filthy language every 10 seconds or they are completely dark, demonic and disturbing and leave you feeling like everything and everybody in the world is evil!!

Very few filmmakers are doing really good, funny and happy movies that show the right combination of fun family experiences with tons of love, laughter and joy. Not since Momma Mia have I been excited to go see something that I already know is going to make me leave smiling & happy.
