Am I weird for liking the non-digital SLR’s more than the DSLR’s?
ОтветитьI wish we could get back to really good mechanical engineering like what went into this camera
Ответить1 light meter = 3.336 x 10^-9 seconds.
So roughly 3⅓ nanoseconds.
As far as I know the din part has been forgotten in Germany as well. My canon camera which is set to German will still only display the old asa part of iso
Ответитьcan we just appreciate that you've implemented screen capturing just to show us the impressive engineering in that slr
Ответить„We call those stops … stops“ had me giggle
ОтветитьI wonder what f-stop and shutter speed would be best to photograph NIXIE TUBES....
ОтветитьWhich focus screen is this one? I think it is a type "E"?
Ответитьoh yes the olympus penees is my favourite
Ответитьi do love using film, but its just not easy enough in this digital world these days. also i have no room for a dark room.
ОтветитьWait what do I do if my F1 battery check is above the blue mark dude you said I’d get to that
Ответить"And these stops are called...
Portal 2"
What I love about your channel is that, as you're talking, questions pop into my head and, almost without fail, you answer that question nearly immediately. Great videos! I've been binge watching them.
ОтветитьA light meter sounds more like a unit of time. I Planck out tho.
ОтветитьLies! Those bookcases are not two dimensional! Wait. Are we agreeing that yer set is awesome? And do you sleep there too?
ОтветитьI have a minolta srt 101 that works more or less exactly how this one works.
ОтветитьCanon did a sister camera to the F-1N called simply the "EF". It looks almost identical to the F1 and it can automatically take a 1.5V battery and it auto-converts to 1.35V. It also has a faster flash sync than the F1 and has mechanical faster speeds with battery powered slower speeds. It's a really nice camera.. the later models have the split screen view finder same as the one in your F1N.
ОтветитьYou should do a video on the Leningrad rangefinder camera they're super wacky and really neat its also quite advanced for being a 1960s camera it has an auto wind feature as well as an automatically cocking shutter I highly recommend looking into it
ОтветитьBruh you and Captain D being the same guy is the wildest conspiracy. But also please crossover. He can teach you how to use blender3d for compositing and editing
ОтветитьOne of the best quick explanations of analog photography and the shutter speed/aperture relationship. Well done! From a photographer of 60 years (and still happily using ‘70s SLRs)
ОтветитьI just bought a Canon A1, I really like how it has aperature priority, I just have to make sure the shutterspeed never goes below 60 and I’m good 👌 well I think… still on my first roll of film
Ответитьwas hoping to get an AE-1 and then after watching this video totally switched gears and now I want the F-1, was wondering if any, what other film cameras out there have the same style "match the needle" light meter.
ОтветитьI just bought a canon F-1. I tried three batteries and tried to do the battery check k, it seems nit to work.
I tested indoors, light meter does not move from the bottom.
metering seem to work only outdoors on direct sunlight, but battery check still not wirking.
any recommendations?
Interestingly I have a vivitar XV-1 (Which is really a rebadged cosina CT-1) which has a similar light meter to this. Instead of a moving target though everything is done by changing the sensitivity of the needle. The target I have to meet is always the centre of the lightmeter. As far as I can tell its metering is done in exactly the same way as the F-1 otherwise though. I love my vivitar XV-1 and I'm suprised it's held up as well as it has knowing that even when it was new it was a fairly budget camera. The only thing i mildly dislike about it is there is no depth of field preview at all which is frustrating. I'm hopefully going to get an Olympus OM-2 soon which has an automatic exposure which is done in quite an interesting way as well with a sensor basically reading the light that is reflected off of the film in order to determine exposure. Though it does also seem to have a similar light meter to the f-1 if you use the manual exposure mode of the camera.
ОтветитьThis is so cool, I have a Canon A1 which is one of the successors to this Camera, basically this same except for electronic meter and no removable prism so no waist level view finder much to my chagrin. Thanks for all the infos must have been difficult to research, there are manuals out there but I doubt any of them go into this much detail
ОтветитьWow, took me back to my dads camera that I learned to take pics with. It was an all mechanical EXA with a separate light meter and a viewfinder that you looked down into. It was really neat if you wanted to shoot over the heads of a crowd but an absolyute bnightmare to line up since you needed to consciously adjust for each axis individually.
Managed some pretty neat shots with it tho.
Can you take us down the reciprocity failure rabbit hole some day?
ОтветитьLate to the game, but ISO is "equal". So it's not I.S.O, but ISO. Why? Because back then the internationals didn't want an English initialism ... Or so I've heard.
Ответитьwhere are mr. flare?
ОтветитьCanon made the best film cameras
Ответитьfake
ОтветитьI think im just confused by the illuminated photos in the ikea squares and why/how they look like that
Ответитьwow!
ОтветитьNo, you can't usually change the sensitivity of a digital sensor. In reality you are instead changing the gain.
ОтветитьEye after watching this video remembered about the cool a slight M and I actually got one of the Nikon's that has these in it. It's incredible it is from the 70s but it's still so unbelievably usable that I don't see why I would ever get a different camera.
ОтветитьThe germans was good at many areas, but when it comes to film speed this swedish/european guy have to admit: DIN stinks, ASA rules!
ОтветитьThis video would go very nicely in your "photography" playlist
ОтветитьI have seem my dad's old F1 laying around for years, ever since I was a kid, this video inspired me to go after it and try it out, thanks
Ответитьthanks! good video
ОтветитьFor dozens of videos I worried about the question "how much time the author spends on dusting the backround?" Now I know that.
ОтветитьHi, I’m assuming that meter is a spot meter and not an incident meter, but would you mind confirming that? Also, amazing video. I’d love to see a video where you discuss the differences in operation and construction between spot, incident, and color meters! That would be amazing
ОтветитьIs the Nikon FM good for learning??
ОтветитьYou can push or pull film too. By doing this it allows you to use a roll of film at a different iso than labeled, and then you would adjust during development. It gives wonderful effects in different capacities.
ОтветитьI just snagged one of these at a thrift store with a 24-44 lens and MF motor drive unit. Thanks for all the info!
ОтветитьDrop adobe. Embrace davinci resolve.
ОтветитьI still shoot with the Canon F-1. Not as much as I'd like to because film is bloody expensive these days, but it's an absolute joy when I do use it
ОтветитьCanon f1
