Thankyousomuchh it helped a lott😊
ОтветитьDo you have your own brushes?
ОтветитьThis was really helpful! Thanks a lot!
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьThis tutorial slapped. Your metal slaps. Absolutely timeless. Thank you for coming in my hour of need.
Ответитьwhat brush are you using?
ОтветитьHello can you doing gold tutorial ?
ОтветитьTHANKS
Ответитьwho would have thought that all these years later, you would still be known as "Master Squiggle-Bits".
ОтветитьI don't know if you're still reading comments, But one thing I wanted to point out which wasn't really touched on here from what I saw is that the colour of metal influences the colour of the reflected light in a way which you don't see from non-metals. The reason is complicated and quantum mechanics based. However it's very relevant when working with rendering realistic materials. If you have a polished non-metal surface, You'll notice that the specular highlights are more or less the same colour as the light that hit the object. For example, If you shine a white light onto an apple, The specular highlights will be white. The red on the apple is instead diffuse lighting which is uniform in all directions.
If you try the same thing with a coloured metal such as copper, Then the specular highlights will be tinted by the copper. Again, Complicated quantum mechanical reasons for this based on the fact that light is an electromagnetic wave and metal is conductive. However the end result is that the specular highlights of metals are tinted by the colour of the metal. Whereas they are not on non-metals.
This is arguably the most important consideration when realistically rendering metal materials. And while it doesn't come up much in ferrous metals, It is absolutely essential for golds, Coppers, Etc.
Thank you ❤
Ответитьawesome thank you !
Ответитьgreat very helpful thanks
ОтветитьThis video was so good I had to leave a comment! Great stuff man, thank you for sharing such good knowledge! <3
ОтветитьOh god i swear I've been struggling to colour metal FOR LITERAL YEARS- and it's even worse when your oc has metal weapons/ armour so it's really frustrating HHH- Thank you so darn much you just earned yourself a sub dude!!! Also, that's some high level artwork right there matiiee!!
Ответитьcant tell if hes teaching me how to paint metal or trying to rizz me up
Ответить“What’d you learn today?” “How to draw squiggle bits”
ОтветитьFantastic vid. You got a sub. Thank you
Ответитьthanks a lot! this video is great and relaxing, about reflex was very interesting for me.
subscribe and like
The eye-opening moment for me was when you started adding in highlights on the edges - immediately my brain went “that’s metal”! Super helpful, thank you! These are the things I want to know, the key features.
ОтветитьI've never seen anyone's art process before aside from people's speed paint which doesn't explain alot, but this is relatable whenever I'm doing art drawing/painting it's not really like how professionals do it or show it like everything's already figured out with pin point accuracy I always had to re adjust to find which is better to look at and because professionals call that process "destructive process" (because you have to erase and redo multiple times) I developed an impostor syndrome
ОтветитьThis tutorial was super helpful. I watch it at least once a month. Thank you
Ответитьfantastic video, really long but so worth it guys just sit and do the work alongside!
Ответитьi love how you explain things and youre so handsome!
ОтветитьThank you for posting this video! It was very helpful and I learned a lot. Also I want to say that you explained in a very clear way that makes it easy to understand, which is good. Have an awesome day!
ОтветитьThis was extremely helpful man, thank you a lot! ☺it was also an unintentional asmr, very relaxig to listen
Ответитьwas struggling to shade a helmet this made it really fun and easy extremely helpful and highly affective thank you for sharing :)
Ответить🙏🙏🙏Could u show in procreate plz Tnq
ОтветитьI love all the spund effects 😄 they really do help me remember the instructions and stay entertained and interested in the video
ОтветитьWhat brush do you use for the shine
Ответитьcan you reduce the mic sensitivity a bit i can kinda hear you breathing through out the video the video is amazing but i have hard time listening to people breath 😅
ОтветитьHelpful video..took awhile to get the answers I wanted like the types of brushes you used or how you blended etc..but you did a great job of describing that. Thanks!
ОтветитьSometimes I argue with friends and colleagues because they insist I should call myself a "professional illustrator" since I do it for a living. And I don't quite feel to be that, I constantly feel like there is more i need to learn before even trying. AND, when i see videos like yours, with your expertise, I understand what I recall as professionist. Amazing skills!
ОтветитьWow great tutorial thank you!
Ответитьthank you so much for this tutorial! definitely gonna check out your other videos and "spread the word around" ;)
ОтветитьThanks Gamma. This is best metal tutorial I've seen before. Keep up great work.
Ответитьwtf this tutorial is so good <3
Ответитьvery yummy.
these are the points I picked out:
HIGHLIGHT REALM
1. use interesting shapes for the highlights.
2 use the example of a coke can
3. pay attention to the bounce light.
4. The rim of the metal is very reflective. while drawing the base, make the rims and corners darker. make the edges look worn out, by adding bumps and nicks.
5. depending on where the metal is bent, u get more or less shade. because metal is a hard object, we make sharp lines with the darker colour on the highlights.
- (the squiggle bits part not included because that's exactly how I shade my hair, so I know how to do that ;-;)
6. when u chip into both sides of the highlight, it bends the light a lil bit (for stylisation). use circular motions with the darker colour nearing the centre but start getting more stiff and straighter as u near the edges and the rims.
7. d i f f u s i o n of the light. use textured brush for this. also chip into the diffusion a little too, to make a smooth transition.
- (personally, when I do this, i'd use a slightly more changed colour. eg- the metal here is blue so I'd shift the colour on my colour wheel every so slightly to the green side or the purple side depending upon the environment. I think it gives a very cool effect. then touch the highlight again on top with pure white, maybe like.. 95% opacity to give emphasis on certain areas.)
8. give your BABYMETAL some premature squiggle bits. play around with ur highlight, but don't go haywire.
NOW WE GO INTO THE SHADOW REALM.
9. the dark part work the same way as light part. 👍. give it an interesting shape, make sure to skip shading the rim because rim = reflective. (4.) (me personally, I would go into the purple side here, js a litttlleee... sliiiighhhtht shift in the colour wheel. the opposite side of what I did for the highlight.)
10. chip into the dark line the same way, don't make it too squiggly tho, u want the attention to be on the highlight cuz metal. blend using a textured brush. the light will eat into the dark here because metal = reflective.
11. make the metal look pitted. (give it acne, the babymetal finally hit puberty.)
12. by now it's already very metal. but now u gotta make it react to the environment. basically bounce light in normal situations, in case the light source is close to the metal, it's gonna reflect intensely.
13. figure out which part of ur 3d shape faces the bounce light, and add colours accordingly. and we love rough edges. blemd with soft brushes, since it's not the big show, it's just the stage.
14. think outside the frame. are there trees? or sand-dunes? show them reflections on the metal. colour reflection and bounce light.
DETAIL REALM
I WON'T TOUCH THE DETAIL REALM I'M NOT THAT GOOD YET. BUT I WILL WATCH IT.
15. extreme light and dark. dots and lines, follow the shape of the metal.
16. add scrapes and scratches.
recipe is over, served stylised, nom nom.
Amazing step by step tutorial. Watching this so I can properly paint a Mecha Figure, but the fundaments still apply, so thank you very much!
ОтветитьThis is PHENOMENAL. How am I only just discovering this!? Gorgeous metalwork!
ОтветитьThanks for the education!
ОтветитьNice! Got the scratches got the pits, but one thing im curious about us how do you handle dents?
ОтветитьСпасибо, очень помогло ваше видео, вы классный!🎉
ОтветитьArt can be science and math at the same time.
Ответитьcan you explain what kind of brush you use?
Ответитьthe way you draw the metal is SO juicy and it's exactly what i wanna learn to do😩
ОтветитьThank you very much sir, my armor rendering has improved a ton
ОтветитьI have been referencing this video for YEARS. as a predominantly fantasy / historical painter, I have always tried to avoid painting metal if possible. But that’s, like, not possible. So whenever I’m having a block I watch this video and I feel like a sword painting god. I am so grateful for this video bc it’s so detailed and in depth and it’s FREE. you are a saint for this.
ОтветитьI've been drawing for years but always been hesitant to get to the painting side of things. I always cell shaded but recently I've been learning to paint and I'm so stuck on getting metal to look right lol
ОтветитьTHANK YOU FOR THIS TUT!! I REALLY NEEDED IT TO HELP WITH DRAWING SOME ARMOUR🩷🩷🩷
