Very informative video, my wife’s car has this problem. Do you leave the round bungs off when you realise the water from underneath, or do you put them back in..? Thanks…

Hi mate, once you’ve sealed the vents up do you put the bungs back in or leave them out?

Good video, just bought a 2014 Focus and both compartments wet!. Under the parcel shelf on both sides, I noticed a leak on one side, looks like there should be a cover on the access points but I have none, where would this leak likely be coming from, one of the welds?

Thanks for the video. Has made my mate happy he now knows how to fix his stinking leaky Focus and reminded me why the last in a long line of Fords I've owned I got rid of in 1995. 🤣

Aluminium tape and silicone sealer from above the light fittings down over the lights to bottom of boot fixes this pretty well without removing the bumper.. Quick fix to get dry temporarily for 7 pounds

Thanks, Andrew, for this video. The water had reached thru to the back seat wells just like yours so I'm going to try this myself however we dont get many dry days here in Glasgow so I will need to come up with a plan to dry the car out first 🙂. Thanks again

This is a common issue for years with ford cars and they still continue doing the seals the same way,
Ford should be shamed for what they charge for cars ans continue with these shabby ways

This really helped sort out a problem that we found recently. The insulation in the vent was saturated. Can't thank you enough for your advice.

Very good video, thank you. But the water ingress leak I have on my 2011 Ford Focus Titanium is coming from above the keyless entry module that is located near the top of the boot wall on the left-hand side. This is above the vents and just above the upper level of the light cluster. poured water over the external area above this point but no drips, then it rains and water drips in. Does anyone have a clue?

Mines is leaking from here and the boot rams. I've silicon sealed the boot rams but it's still getting in there. If there wasn't so much water in the car I'd set it on fire!

I bought a 2012 focus this year, mould has appeard on the rear seat and the floor is damp in the last side back seat... Seats are not wet though funny enough. I will have to do more investigation to see if I have a lot of water like this.

Thanks very much for this informative video. I've experienced wet on in the footwell for a while and I took out the plugs behind the rear wheels and water flooded down my sleeves. This should sort the issue until I have time to seal the vents.

Hi Andrew, thanks for this video saved me a lot of money and time trying to source the problem, I had the vents sealed at a garage, ive noticed that they haven’t removed the soundproof insulation though and there is no bung so I can access it from under the car obviously water has got back up there and soaked the wadding, do you think I’m going to end up with the same problem? Thanks for your time.

Same problem but different cause. On your video at 1min 36sec you will see a welding line between the roof/rear lid and the side. The welding had come apart slightly and much of the water pouring off the roof and onto the rear lid as you describe was then coming through this crack in the welding and into the car. I used all weather sealant to fix it.

Just bought a used ford focus and it smelled a bit funny I just assumed it was because they had cleaned the car and not let it dry out fully. Now I know why. Kinda devastated about it but at least it's a relatively easy fix. Mechanically the car feels okay which is the main thing. Trying to be positive about it

On mine as well as this problem, water also gathers in the boot door hatch and can be heard sloshing as it’s opened. Then dripping out when in the open position from each corner. Any ideas why or how to fix?

Thanks for this video, I have had this exact same problem just today. I have a 2013 plate Focus MK3 and at first I noticed some mold in the side of the boot and some damp carpets etc, I initially thought nothing of it and assumed I had left a window open. Then today I opened the boot and noticed some weird type of mushrooms / fungus growing out of the carpet where it was damp (yikes), naturally I then decided to take everything out of the boot to clean etc and noticed a large pool of water sloshing around under where the space saver wheel lives! Of course a quick search then led me to this video and the solution (hopefully). Both rear vents were full of water and the sound proofing wringing wet, and so following this advice I cleaned up and silicon sealed the vents etc, fingers crossed this is the end of water finding its way into the boot, I have no idea how long water had been in the boot, maybe for months, possibly years! Naturally I shall be keeping an eye on it and fingers crossed this has solved the problem. It sounds like a common fault on this model, what a crap design. Once again, many thanks for the video, it has been a big help and hopefully saved me some garage fees.
