I tried making a 2d engine in Java several years ago , ended up with just like an OG Pokémon style map editor lol.

I really loved the editors in heroes of might n magic as a kid. Can kind of envision a dungeon crawler where you gain resources to build your own dungeons as a player and other people could visit/crawl player built dungeons. 🤔 kind of a replacement for procedural content in traditional roguelike/arpgs , or even a mix of both

One of John Romero's "ten rules" is "always spend as much time on the tools as possible". Better tools = more efficient production, quick iteration, and so on.

I have a hard time imagining how this would be done (the editor is loading files and writing to files?), but this channel has such invaluable content and has inspired me to make my game with JavaScript and not with a game making software.

Going to build my editor to focus on dialog checks and roleplay features
