Scaring Americans with the term “socialized” medicine while Big Pharma, insurance companies, American Hospital Association, American Medical Association lobby politicians to keep things as they are. Meanwhile making trillions off the backs of working people is just so tragic.

US citizens pay taxes for medicare and medicaid, meanwhile they aren't eglible for it until they aren't either 65+ old (medicare) or poor (medicaid).

If you have the need for a epipen for diabetes in the Uk, then it’s free and you don’t pay the standard prescription charge. It’s covered by being medically exempt.

it's actually sad, because the main idea here (especially for the older folks) happens to be that if it's free or cheap then it's not good enough or worth it. So if it's expensive, then that's good, and this is concerning their own health, life, and being. God help us all

Don’t use the word “socialized”. If you don’t explain it to people what it entails, then the answers you get will be inaccurate and unreliable.

This is a nation that voted Donald Trump as President, has no idea whatever about the rest of the world and couldn't point to another country, or probably even another US state on a map. Thousands go bankrupt every year due to medical bills and still they vote against healthcare! They get the system they deserve!

According to a number of investigative studies, the reason why there is not a comprehensive socialized medicine that is effective in the United States is because a certain percentage of people from certain demographics don’t want it for everybody except themselves. Some people are always talking about how we’re gonna pay for it. Yet the multi-millionaires/billionaires, the corporate, the military contractors, the pharmaceutical companies and the politicians (who reportedly don’t pay their fair share of taxes, by the way….)are always in their pockets and they don’t say anything about that.
Generally the middle-class is paying for those groups with higher taxes, but some within that group cannot stomach the prospect of people they don’t like getting the same things that they want or have, whether they’re middle class or poor and belong to certain demographics.

Health care is NOT free in the UK. The taxation figures are far higher than quoted. The NHS has good points but the management is absolute rubbish.

The word "socialism" scares a lot of people. What they don't understand is that healthcare costs are so high because providers and insurance are for-profit. CEOs make a lot of money. So do the share-holders. You take the profit out of the equation and costs are a lot more reasonable.

Very short sighted of Americans. They're worried about free healthcare translating into increased cost, but studies show a decrease in long term healthcare costs when the average level of health is increased across the board from universal healthcare access.

I currently pay £124 a month National Insurance although it has been less when I was earning less. I have 3 Children who were delivered by Amazing Midwives (Not doctors but that's a whole other American idiocy) and they didn't cost a penny. My wife is asthmatic and has an EpiPen and pays £10 a month for all of her prescriptions regardless of how many. All of my children medicine is free. If I need to see a doctor or call an Ambulance I just do, I don't need to worry about paying for it. My dad died of Cancer but we didn't have to worry about any of his treatments or Hospice care and could instead concentrate on being there for him and grieving him properly. The idea that we don't get a choice of doctor is utter rubbish, if we wanted to go private we can however most don't need to as the NHS is amazing (Not perfect but that's not the doctors or nurses fault). At the end of the day just look at the average life expectancy of UK vs US (80.90 vs 77.28) and healthcare is a big reason for that! Healthcare is a right (As defined by the UN)

"i don't want the government picking what i can and cannot do". She's much rather have a worker bee with no medical training at an insurance company tell her doctor what kind of care she can receive. SSOOOOO much better!

for the "who's going to pay for it?" We already do! anyone who pays for insurance or pays taxes to pay for medicare and medicaid are already paying for the uninsured. Plus, we'd just replace our premiums and copays with the taxes, so the impact to most of American taxpayers would be negligible. (bonus - no more bankruptcy for medical bills! whooo!!) Multiple studies and analyses have shown that it actually costs more per capita to have the US healthcare non-system set up like it is now than it would be to just provide everyone with healthcare. Google is your friend....

I don't know why Americans insure their houses or cars but not their health. All insurance works on the principle of solidarity. That's fine for Americans when it comes to houses and cars. But when it comes to health, they smell socialism.
At least here in Germany, health insurance is part of the salary and the amount depends on the salary. So the taxpayer has little to do with it.

Nothing in life is free. We pay for our health care in the UK via taxes. The reason your health care system costs so much is because big pharmaceutical companies charge a fortune and bribe your officials to keep it that way. Tell big pharmaceutical companies to take a hike and stop relying so much on drugs. It is that simple.😊😊😊

If everyone paid a small amount in tax depending on their pay everyone would have health care ...but it seems that that is socialism... well its better than what those ladies talk about , a case of ' I'm alright Jack ' and don't care about their fellow friends, family or countrymen!

In South Africa, we have public and private Healthcare services. Public healthcare is part of the government's national budget annually. Every citizen and sometimes non-citizens are eligible for it provided that they need Healthcare services. Ambulances that belong to public hospitals are free. The only downside is that public hospitals get congested while been understaffed in terms of available doctors, nurses, etc.

Ambulances that belong to private hospitals are not free nor expensive.
These hospitals arr for those that can afford them. Usually what happens is that an employer has to deduct a certain percentage of an employee's monthly earnings to pay for their medical aid costs. Depending on the amounts being paid to for health insurance. The medical aid decides which private hospitals you are eligible for. Basically the more deductions made from your earnings, the better the private health care services you will get.

I am from FRANCE, most of what you said is true. However, the biggest difference between US and EU is the SECURITY. You said that you have great insurance through your job. Whay will happen the day you lose your job? You lose all your benefits. Not with socialized healthcare. WE are always insured, covered because our benefits are not tied to a job. We can never lose our healthcare. Always there!!! You did not mention that crucial fact.
