I am a true believer of games, where the players are the only ones to roll dice! ICONS first introduced me to this alien concept! =P
ОтветитьI still don't see this as a diffferent, I've never played where we look for bonuses after the die roll, I've always played where we figure out the bonuses before the roll, most GM's I've been with would simply say if you forgot a bonus before the roll to bad, can't change the roll afterwards.
ОтветитьI'm really enjoying this style of video your doing.
ОтветитьI first read this as "I am enjoying the style of video of your dong."
ОтветитьThanks for making these! This is a great, succinct comparison of the two systems. I hadn't thought about it explicitly in those terms, but I think you really got to the root of the difference between the 2 systems and why I like Numenera so much more than Pathfinder.
Ответитьin my eyes the biggest difference is the effort mechanic. Great Video, dude! Loving the style.
ОтветитьI like that the system is player based. As a GM telling a story, does it become difficult to fudge the numbers in order to move the story to a certain direction?
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьAh! good question. There is a mechanic called the GM Intrusion (its not as mean as it sounds.) Watch his video "How to gain and use XP" for more on that.
Ответитьfantastic! great video.
ОтветитьIn d&d you tell your GM your attacking the monster, and he tells you the Armor Class it has, and now you add up your bonuses and select powers etc, to add to a roll. When you make the roll you find if you hit or not. If you play a d20 system like this, in no way did your explanation show that their is any difference. In fact I question your ability to design a game after watching this poor explanation.
ОтветитьOutstanding video man! I love the little paper bubbles and the quick get to the point manner of this fast and informative video. I'm actually going to buy the core rulebook just because of this video.
ОтветитьSo every turn I take I basically have to conduct a cost/benefit analysis and plan out a budget accordingly? Congrats Monte you just made ThaC0 look elegantly simple. How does this not make the GM not look like an adversary? He's the one setting the difficulty numbers that could be screwing you. It's like you've been tossed into gladiatorial arena and the guy running the show saying "Hey I'm not your enemy all I'm doing is releasing these starved man eating lions into the arena with you."
ОтветитьGreat video. Can't a DM just allow players to add bonuses up front and roll after? And a lot of players like to know what they're rolling against before they roll. Furthermore, if they add bonuses up front, roll, and still don't make it, then the discussion with friends can come; something your example of Numenera doesn't account for.
Both examples feature rolling and adding of bonuses, both are immersion breaking. The reason Skyrim is engaging is the math is behind the scenes. My personal preference in table top games replaces as much math and RNG with immersive, decision making combat with a touch of combat-gambling.
Again, great videos with awesome paper FX, in glorious CrumpleVision (TM).
You know what it really needs? A MAD magazine fold-over!
man you need to do something with your table...
ОтветитьSo, simply applying all Player ups as modifiers to lowering the DC will make D&D a revolutionary rpg, huh? Problem solved then.
