This opening makes tears of nostalgia run down my face. I still remember playing this game every waking moment I got on 360 at my grandparents house as kid. It kinda sucks we live in the timeline where Skyrim got a million re-releases/remasters over the years and Oblivion can't get one.

I think when he said " I have seen the Gates of Oblivion, Beyond which no naked eye may see" is a reference to him being trapped in Oblivion by his corrupted Battle Mage Jagar Tharn in the first game

The voice acting in this small piece is amazing. The smallest inflections, such as when after "These are the final days of the Third Era...", there's an intake of breath, a pause "...and the final hours of my life."

This is me when I was born 87 years ago and for 65 years I ruled as tamriels emperor yet for all those years I wasn't the ruler of my dreams and I saw the gates of oblivion which no waking eye may see also me during the 27th of last seed year of akatosh 433 during the closing days of the third Era and the final hours of my life

I played Oblivion after Skyrim, but this gave me goosebumps, currently playing it with happiness

- I'm in a cell. I can't even remember what I'm in jail for; I'm pretty sure I accidentally kicked a chicken.
- the dark elf in the cell opposite mine is an asshole.
- I then see three guards in cool armour coming down the steps.
- one of them seems surprised that I'm in here; bestie have you never seen a prisoner before?
- One girl tells me to get back.
- I'm not trying to get into trouble this time so I just sit at the table.
- apparently that isn't enough. So I just stand close to the wall.
- all of a sudden, the freaking Emperor of Tamriel waltzes into my cell.
- he then proceeds to tell me that he's seen me in his dreams; wtf?
- anyways, his guards tell me that I can follow them through a secret passageway that was in my cell the whole time.
- There are a LOT of rats and goblins in these tunnels....
- I FINALLY reach the Emperor. One of his guards tries to kill me.
- Then Uriel decides to drop the knowledge that he apparently has a secret son named Martin, and that I'm supposed to find him to light the Dragonfire or whatever.
- he then proceeds to give possibly the most important amulet in all of Nirn to me. Sir, I am a complete stranger to you, why are you handing me this????
- Oop, he's dead now.
- Could've given me some directions first!

Happy 17th Anniversary, Oblivion!

I love how one moment Oblivion is this epic fantasy game then the next moment a potato will run up to me, say something unhinged then run off into the night to get torn apart by a demon.

The fact that Patrick Stewart lent his vocal credentials to this is what makes it so truly great to watch.

I can close my eyes, and remember when I first heard this and remember when life was better.
