At first I was little discouraged when it was stated the s5 ii wouldnt record in raw. After doing a ton of research, I am fine without it! Yes, raw recording may be nice for the extra data and CAN make a noticeable difference, but I think as long as you master your technique of composition and such- standard video in 4k is more than enough imo.

I would say anyone considering buying the Sony ZV-E1 would be better off buying the Panasonic Lumix S52 or S52x. More value for the same amount of money.

That DPreview, you guys and your team have been made obsolete. What a crying shame! So glad you got a new home at PetaPixel.

What is the difference between Auto-focus Continuous (AFC) and Auto-focus Single (
AFS)? .... My S5ii behaves in same way in both the modes? ... Also, in Human priority mode, it tracks human body, but if something e.g a shoulder or hand comes in the front, it will focus on the hand, even if the hand is not covering the face. This is one of the biggest drawback for keeping the face in focus.

Can anyone who has the camera confirm 120P can be recorded with audio? If I interpreted the online manual right it looks as though 120P 1080 can be a normal video mode but 150 and 180P only in slow and quick (no audio).

Mov mode requires to have a program on the computer capable of editing the file. The Mov file in panasonic is not recognizable by Windows. This is the biggest issue.

Nice camera but just not enough MP for a full frame sensor in my personal opinion, at least if we are talking about a brand new camera body.

Landscape and wildlife are pretty much out of the picture if I would buy anything new for that amount of money with that amount of MP.

Still commendable what Panasonic finally delivered here.

If you are shooting serious VIDEO -- you do not need AF. What you need instead are manual focus CINEMA LENSES. Whatever gets you through the night, I suppose.

I've been using Panasonic cameras for a long time now (G80, GH5, GH5 II, S5) and I was just tired of guessing focus every damn time by focusing manually. It's great they finally moved to phase detect and all, but it's gonna take a long time for them to polish tracking AF to be reliable. Having tried Sony cameras (ZV-1 and ZV-E10) last year, I can now appreciate how much of a life-changer good tracking AF is, especially if you're a one-man band. I know that Sony menu system is hot garbage, but I still think I might give in and make the switch, because Sony tracking AF is just that good and manual focus by wire, especially in a run-and-gun setting, is just that frustrating.

Great reviews as always, the £200 extra upgrade is a winner choice for the earning creatives, but it's still not a photographic choice. It's clearly still a filming tool? I see it hunting quite a bit, beathing and re focusing in tracking. Its like 2023 now, it's still not there and very late to market.

I shared this story on Potato Jet's review, but I thought I'd share it again. I recently had to sell my A7IV due to a family medical emergency and I was devastated. I loved my Sony as it was a replacement for my first camera, a Panasonic GX85. I was a huge fan of Panasonic, but the AF on my Sony was untouchable. After learning about the S5II, I don't feel so depressed about not having my Sony anymore. I now have an excuse to go back to my first love, Panasonic, and now have similar AF performance. There truly is a light at the end of every tunnel and things aren't so bad! I still have to overcome some financial struggles to buy a new setup, but I have something to look forward to. Life is 👍!

For someone who slightly leans more toward video, but mostly hybrid, which would you choose S5 II or Fuji XH2s? considering lens options as well

I've been backwards, forwards. For hours in the last 3 weeks looking at getting a couple of new cameras for my documentary film work. I ran across no recording limits. with less features or most features with recording limits and overheating. It seems I have now found. The perfect solution. 2 of these will suit all my production's needs and eventually to be joined with the S1H Great review as always. guys KUDOS🙂

Panasonic-Lumix, How about uping your game now! Let's get a 33+ stacked sensor model out on the streets now! Tweak the autofocus past Sony's. Give them a run for the money! Leave them behind in the dust. U got the overheating issue figured out at a resonable price point, now u got phase detect, but let's finish it off. Let's get a lot more lenses in the f2.8 neighborhood, sharp good glass at reasonable prices. Leave the competition behind! 😎😎

hey cnd hobos. My main concern is the fact it's still 24mp like their mk1. This mk2 is basically a videocentric camera with better af. It's great if you are video focused but I'm more of photography guy. This and the lack of native lenses makes it a non-starter for me. I don't get why they did not up the mp for the mk2 version of this. Weird. Isn't panny aware of sony a7iv? Even sony upped the sensor size by almost 30% to 33mp. ps. isn't it true that panny 4k60 is cropped. huh.
