Silent Hill 2 Remake - the BEST thing about it

SH2 isn't on gog unfortunately. The only way to digitally buy Silent Hill games is the original on PS3 or Vita, SH4 on gog, Short Message on PS5 and Homecoming and Remake on steam. It's incomplete and all over the place.

Walmart has it for $30 right now. I would grab it before it’s out of stock.

I haven’t been this scared of a game since I was a kid. Playing with 3d audio headphones is terrifying. It’s scarier then any Resident evil game when you’re just standing there or walking around simply due to the sound and audio it’s crazy😂

While I love this game it’s sad that companies can only make remakes and not new IPs

This is an impressive remake… it is scary, nothing is scarier than Silent Hill to me… I hope that this is the coming back of Konami… Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill… some of my favorite games belong to these franchises… this remake is great and scary as hell… an improvement vs the original one in every single thing!
Now we need 1 and 3 as well!

I remember last year when RE4 remake and dead space remake came out and both were super solid. So many people thought there’s no way in hell we’d bat 3/3 with the silent hill 2 remake and it would definitely suck (the trailers and marketing being total ass didn’t help things)

I as well as most of the gaming community are absolutely flabbergasted at how shockingly good this remake after thinking that for so long.

It’s very very true, I think it was near the clock puzzle. When walking through a door the light changes, before the flash light is more yellow and very dim but after you step through it, the flashlight widens, brightens and becomes more white

As someone that never played the original because well I was born that year, now that I beat it I’m depressed I’ll never play it for the first time again, this was the most anxiety inducing game I’ve ever played

For me silent hill 1 would be a master piece of a remake

I have complaints
[1] why is that James unable to run and only jogging even when i expected him to run?
[2] HDR sucks to the max . a very poor implementation IMO
[3] why is that James only capable of landing 3 melee shots at time provided the enemy is standing up but is capable of delivering relentless barrage of melee attacks if the enemy is on ground?

a kind of a funny thing i discovered accidently is that James when jogging have the same beat/rhythm of "I like the way you kiss me" by Artemas 🙂. also I disagree with the scary part. this game is not scary at all for me. the music and the environments and the lack of vision all try to get that phobia but its not working for me and I don't have an explanation as to why is that. I'm almost done with the game and will post my play throughs in the near future. 👍

I think years ago the game Unreal did this certain point in the game where the lights are on then you’d press a red switch and then the lights would go off one by one from the distance and then the growls are heard. So when you mention about darkness to a game it works and music and fx always play a top part for me in any game.

when i was a young whippersnapper, i loved silent hill 4 so much i really should replay it.
i wonder if theyll get around to remaking the others, or if they can be trusted to make their own silent hill.

In my restless dreams I see that place silent hill

As someone who is suffering through PTSD this game has nailed every emotion I feel absolutely perfect. The world feels like my nightmares, the fog feels like what clouds my brain, the monsters are things I’ve created, the detail of the atmosphere is what I truly feel. It’s just such a beautiful and expressive game imo. This is my favorite game ever

Good points

Worst things: consistent micro-stutters and the cost.

The level design, puzzles, and atmosphere are all top-notch, along with satisfying combat. I also felt like it's paced very well. You don't feel like you're doing the same things over and over, although you actually are, for the most part. There were a couple of sections towards the end that fell flat for me. I just wanted it to be over and to move on. It wasn't for a level of frustration over what to do. It just felt tedious for no reason back to back.
Having never played the first game. I was looking forward to a good story, and it is anything but. Pretty sure I got the standard ending, and it made no sense. I feel like the journey I took with James was all for nothing. The ending fell totally flat for me. We learned nothing about the town except for some little subtleties found thruout the world here and there attempting to give you a back story for the town that's marred in tragedy and turmoil but nothing about what's currently going on and why it is the way it is. I realize Bloober team was mainly sticking to the script, but I'd like to have seen that expanded upon more, especially since the town bares the name of the game.
What was drawing people there?
Bloober team needs to make their own SH game to flesh these ideas out more.
I'd love to see what they come up with having full control.

Genuinely might be the best horror game Ive ever played.

SH2 remake is actually better in almost everyway (not by a lot but still better) than the OG, and i cant believe I am even saying it. Perhaps maybe my expectations were low due to knowing its bloober team making it but not sure. I 100% recommend playing the game with headphones, its not even close to being the same experience if headphones arent used. I was so on edge during the prison section of the game, knowing that enemies could be crawling on the walls or ceiling where I cant see paired with the intense music. Also while walking through the apartment buildings, hospital or hotel you truly get the feeling its abandoned. I am a huge fan of horror and I do not think I have been this creeped out ever because it usually takes a lot to get a reaction out of me (again the experience isnt the same if your not using headphones). My favorite SH games are also SH1 and SH3, especially 3 so after this I really hope they remake those 2 games

The health vignette was probably the most annoying thing in the game, other than the occasional visual stutter. Glad they let you remove it. Absolutely loved it, otherwise! An incredibly loving and faithful recreation of the original game

I'm at the hospital right now. I like the game a lot. And I hope SH 1 and 3 get a remake too. Those games deserve them and need them, unlike many games who get remakes when it's not needed.

Finished this a few days ago. Big fan of the remake. Grew up on silent hill / resident evil.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is an excellent masterpiece by Bloober Team, noting the fact the original Silent Hill 2 was considered a sales failure back in 2001 by Team Silent. The game is a representational artform where I believe (in my opinion) that James is already dead (or somewhat his body is unconscious) after taking SUICIDE (my theory is just one to three weeks after ending Mary's life, also by time loop). His soul is delusional and somehow trapped to find his lost memories in Silent Hill. This to either to be RESURECTED (Rebirth) or become a sacrifice to INCUBUS (Alessa). If reference to Maria DLC, born from a wish, and Silent Hill 4: The Room mythology coincides, the wish is not from James but from Alessa, to make James a sacrifice to the god-like entity that possesses Alessa. In SH4 and SH: Homecoming, the entity after sacrificing 21 souls, the entity requires another sacrifice thereafter. And James, serves this purpose, the DLC Born from a wish, was not actually from James but by Alessa. The Pyramid-head man is actually the executioner, that James is a convicted SINNER, he deserves to die. The executioner, back from the middle-ages in Europe, wears a red (suggest it was from a cult) or brown cone-like cloth (not metal in the game) head covering face to conceal the beheader of a convicted criminal (reference to images found on the internet). The wish, where through psyche - influence people: Maria, has facial resemblance to Mary (but not body figure and personality, also Maria is blonde and blue-eyes, Mary is a brunette and hazel-eyes) to make James regret his action to end Mary's life. Angela is a rape victim, to imply Mary is victim. Eddie is a serial killer, suggesting that James is a murderer. Laura is a child Mary did not have, even said, "You didn't love her anyway."

In Silent Hill 2 DLC: Born from a Wish, Maria was drawn back to Silent Hill just to find that her gun and knife was appropriate from the monsters surprisedly found there. She helped Ernest Baldwin to find a "white liquid" from Blue Creek Apartment to supposedly, and miraculously bring her dead daughter back, Amy. She found herself doubting and delusional about the idea of resurrection. After undergoing such terror and finding out that she was speaking to a ghost, but I believe Ernest is speaking from the other dimension. Also, I think Ernest is an occult member. But he asks her to be careful about James, that he is a danger (as the cult presumes). She pursues to find him, otherwise. I believe the summoned UNKNOWN god-like entity by the cult is preparing James, and Maria is one of the objects to start this test.

The dimension theory where there are at least three (3): (1) Reality, (2) Fog world (in catholic Christianity is called Purgatory), and (3) the otherworld (or Hell). James seems to be delusional and has amnesia, he is in Purgatory. His soul is searching (Silent Hill 4). For Alessa to take his soul as a sacrifice, James must kill himself by suicide. His corruption (SH4) is evident by having dirty fingers and bugged eyes as game progresses. Alessa made a way for other people to influence this (Alessa's wish). The best is ending is about REBIRTH (reference to Tibetan Book of the Dead), and the worst ending to end James life by SUICIDE where he literally drove his car to lake drowning. This achieves Alessa's wish to make James willingly sacrifice his soul to INCUBUS. (As the executioner has doubt if James is guilty or innocent).

MAN!!!! im only 2 hours in at the apartments and this game is absolutely terrifying and incredible! the music is amazing! this is my goty already

I never played the OG game, or any of the games in the series for that matter. But i absolutely loved this game. The story was so damn good. Gameplay mechanics were fine. Not anything too crazy. Dont expect RE4 Remake combat. The horror was insane. Atmosphere and sound is so important to horror. The whisper room in the apartments. Toluca Prison. These are some of the best parts of the game. I never felt the need to take a break in a horror game up until now.

The game is great, and scary, i could cheat and make everything Bright but the Darkness really works very well to a point its scary because you cant see things well.
The enemies are scary, not because of how they look , we're used to monsters by now, but they are scary because they are not very predictable and their combos make them a bit more deadly than usual.
