Williams R Trading Indicator Back test - Beats the S&P 500!

I’ll save others from Larry Williams, in 2023 and 2024 I purchased his view of the year looking forward. He is like the old music hall Mr Memory types, he uses generality as a cover. I’ve had a few spats with him as he gets a bit testy if someone dares to challenge him. I actually moved away from Stockcharts as they stand by him regardless of the quality of his work. I only ever purchased as I genuinely wanted to know if cycles had any credibility but Larry’s don’t. His 2024 cycles had the DOW at dropping to 27000 in March and quickly recovering and Google dropping to $80in March along with a host of other douzzies
I wasn’t looking for an argument with him but he got huffy and said he was right as he had predicted a bull market, sometime, somewhere, a bit like Jimmy Buffet, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. I became very dubious of him as he would boast about having dinner with Steve Cohen or being on Airforce one when there was no link or need to discuss it. Overall the few hundred dollars is neither here nor there and I did my own risk management so never got a trade on. He like futures which are literally financial ieds in the wrong hands.

What is the difference between W%R and Stochastics without any smoothing? They both appear the same.

Williams %R shows the exact same thing as RSI. I just added it to my indicators on Tradingview and they completely match so why use it?

RSI is better and more consistent with less noise. RSI is literally the best and only indicator you need to find out if you need to jump into a stock. Check any of his past videos on trading strategy. Compare any investors entry points and throw on RSI, and its literally the same thing. Check any MACD or moving average entry points, compare to RSI, and its the same thing. Test it out for yourself. You will punch yourself when you realize how easy it actually is

Quantified is basically taking a strategy which was popularized by Larry Connors using the 2 day RSI and which showed good returns especially on the index since it is mean reverting. Williams %R is an indicator which can easily be substituted for RSI (readings have to be reversed though). The long term upward bias of markets negates trying to short it using this indicator.

Thanks Gareth. Very clear. Haven't tried this one yet but it looks like a useful addition to MACD & RSI.

I'm not able to reproduce your backtest results with your rules on the SPY (10 years) (buy: Wm%R(14) crosses over -90; sell: Wm%R(14) crosses over -30 or Close is greater than high of 1 bar ago)

I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong.
